Okay! Here is my update!!! This time arrived at 6pm, and they have all their flavor mochi donuts available. But one server only. Waited about 20 minutes to get 3 donuts (strawberry, taro & Oreo) and a grapefruit tea. The grapefruit tea tasted refreshing minus their grapefruit slice in the picture. The mochi donuts size a smaller than other places I’ve seen. The flavors are not too sweet or too potent. Just noticeable! Would I come back, yes, if I was shopping at Maplewood Mall.
Location: Inside Maplewood Mall, food court area between Panda Express and a Japanese Express (use to be the gyro place).
Finally a mochi donut place in Maplewood! Found this place by accident, went on a evening walk inside Maplewood Mall and decided I wanted a quick bite. Saw all the blue grand opening balloons then quickly realize it was a mochi donut shop. Woohoo...I said, wanting to give a try and review their mochi donuts. Upon arriving to one of the two kiosk machine, I want to get a drink and try some of their donuts. Their donut choice availabilities were crispy rainbow and churro (my least two favorite). Mind you, I arrived there at 6:45pm and their business hours posted here are from 11am to 8pm. I decided not to get anything. Sad, I can't review if my choices are just two of my least flavor choices. Until next time, Oh, please keep in mind they may not have all their mochi donut flavors available in the evening. What is available then, will be done for the day. So, I don't recommend coming around the evening if you want to assortment of flavors to try. (Donut Flavors: Oreo, Strawberry, Taro, Chocolate, Churro and Crispy Rainbow.)
Reason for the 2 stars: I will update this post when I get a chance to their product. Why post then, because there was still 1 hour left before they close and have already stopped making more mochi donut tells me they can't run full capacity yet. And, to let reviewers know who plans on arriving a evening time like I did for be warn what is...
Read moreStopped by Mu Mu Mochi in Maplewood after performing Indonesian traditional dance after Pan Asian center opening. Stopped by out of curiosity because I’m a big fan of mochi donuts, and overall, it was a decent experience. I didn’t have to wait long, which I appreciated, and the staff was polite and quick to take my order.
I tried a few flavors including matcha, something with oreo crushed topping, and strawberry. The donuts looked really appealing with nice colors and glaze. The texture was chewy and soft, but not quite what I expected based on other mochi donuts I’ve had before. They were a bit more cakey and less bouncy, so if you’re used to that classic stretchy mochi chew, you might find these a little different.
Flavor-wise, they were sweet and enjoyable. Overall, the place is cute, and the donuts do taste good. But if you’re looking for that ultra-chewy, traditional mochi donut texture, this might not quite hit the mark. Still worth trying if you’re in the area and craving...
Read moreI don't recommend buying mochi donuts from here. It's a cute storefront with cute donuts on display and it's a trendy food item, but sadly, these donuts are really bad.
At a minimum, mochi donuts should have a crisp outer shell with a soft and chewy inside... The texture of these mochi donuts was bread-y and dense all the way through. 😕 Very strange, tasted more like an undercooked light American-style donut.
We also got their mochi which also had the wrong texture: a bit wet, slime-like, did not hold its round shape, practically melting... and unexpectedly warm, as if it was sitting out in the kitchen next to the fryer or something.
1 star for the boba and the service, both were fine.
I had one bite of the donut and mochi, and I couldn't eat anymore, I was so disappointed. Kids ate the rest because it satisfied their sweet tooth, but they were not...
