Hot Topic — Local services in Maplewood

My little sister (age 12) had a horrible experience here when shopping alone. She was waitng in line and saw that the sign ahead of her said "card only". She's young, so only pays with cash. However, the girl ahead of her who was also around her age was paying with cash. The employee accepted the girl's cash and she left with clothes, jewelry, pins, and other accessories. When my little sister came up to the employee, she brought out her wallet with cash. She was only buying a singular pin and a necklace. She also had the exact amount she needed to pay, so the cashier didn't need to give her change either. She then asked "do you have card?" and proceeded to tell my little sister that she couldn't pay with cash. My little sister was obviously frustrated, because the other girl ahead of her had also paid with cash. The employees excuse for why my little sister couldn't pay with cash was because the girl in front of her was younger. The girl before her had a FULL face of makeup on too. My little sister is 12 and was also around the girl's height. There shouldn't of been any problem with her paying in cash, but the employee kept on insisting that she couldn't pay in it, even though she had CLEARLY just made an exception for the other girl. My little sister didn't want to cause any big scene so she didn't ask for the manager and went to Spencer's to buy a pin instead. I would also like to mention that both the employee and the girl infront of her were white, and that my little sister is asian. I really do hope that the employee wasn't racist, but to my little sister, that was what it seemed like. The employee who worked here was rude and seemed to have favorites. I come here every once in a while with my dad when I want a new shirt or Hot Topic collectible, and every time I shop here the staff is always super kind and willing to help. One staff member was very patient when I was porting my Hot Topic account on my new phone. Even though I kept checking my phone, they were patient and told me to take my time. They also have a very nice selections of items, especially on their website. While I wish the actual store had a larger selection of items, it's still fun to look around to see what they have in stock. I took my son here to get a specific pair of pants and all the ladies there were awesome. They didn't have the exact ones he wanted but helped him order online and delivered to the store free of charge. Turns out one of the pairs weren't correct and they easily offered him to order another pair online and matched the price. It took about a week for each order to be delivered and you get notifications along the way
