The food was absolutely incredible and reasonably priced. My husband and I each got a chimichanga. He got shrimp and I got carnitas. We came with a large party (9 adults, 2 kids). I called about a week in advance to make the reservation. The reservation process was easy and I even got a text confirmation.
When we arrived it was a bit awkward. There was a sign outside that said, “please wait to be seated,” indicating that we should not go in. However, it took a bit for someone to come out and greet us. When we said we had a reservation, they looked us up and then indicated that our table was being used and we would have to wait 10-20 minutes. That was frustrating, because we had made a reservation for a specific time. We ended up having to wait outside in the heat until our table was ready. They did offer us water.
They invited us in to seat us within 20 minutes, but there weren’t enough seats for our party. They said we had to wait for another table to clear up to get the rest of the seats. So a few members of our party were standing in the walkway and it felt uncomfortable.
We did like our waiter. He generally did a good job. He was very kind and made sure our drinks were always full. He did get a couple orders wrong, but they were corrected quickly.
Overall, I would definitely come back for the food. But given the small nature of the establishment I don’t think I would bring a large group here again. They are new restaurant and I believe they are probably still organizing themselves and working out some kinks. I hope they can expand their indoor area and improve their...
Read moreHumo Cocina Mexicana certainly has its highs and lows. Highs are high, and lows are... not that low. Just a little less high :)
But before I Get too far, I need to mention their chips. They were.. a revelation. I'm still dreaming about them. Perfectly salted, achieving that elusive balance between savory and not-too-salty, and possessing an otherworldly crunch, these chips are worth a trip alone. I'd happily make them a staple in my daily diet.
Unfortunately, the entrees didn't quite live up to the chip-induced euphoria. While generally good, they lacked the same level of wow-factor. The chimichanga, in particular, felt a bit bland. It was well-prepared, but it desperately needed a flavor boost. A side of vibrant salsa or a zesty crema would have elevated it significantly.
On the brighter side, the shrimp and fish tacos were a delightful. They were packed with flavor. The seafood was cooked perfectly, and the accompanying ingredients complemented it beautifully.
However, the shrimp ceviche was the notable disappointment. The shrimp tasted a bit off, suggesting a lack of freshness, and we ultimately couldn't finish it. This was a stark contrast to the delicious tacos and a definite low point in the meal.
Service overall was perfect, with just the right amount of attention. As a new restaurant, I certainly wish them the best and hope they succeed. It was good, but some room for...
Read moreHumo is new to the NW side and close to home. We visited Humo last week for Dinner.
Atmosphere: Humo is a located on a nice strip mall area of Thornydale. The restaurant offers a small but quaint dinning area with a small bar and a nice Patio. The restaurant is decorated by beautiful Catrina murals all throughout the space. The bar is small but fully stocked.
Service: There was one host and one server. We were greeted promptly and sat right away. The host provided our table with chips but didn't offer or bring any water.
We waited about 15 minutes before our server arrived to take our order. While the server was pleasant, he didn't bring any water or offer to bring more chips while we waited for our food. Then we were ghosted for the rest of the time while my daughter got up to get a box for our left over burrito and ask for the check. The place is small and while there were was a few other tables, the place was not busy to justify the inattentive service.
Food/Drinks: We order the Carne asada burro enchilada style. The burro was large and packed with a good amount of meat, rice, beans, guacamole. The enchilada sauce was decent. The burro was alright, not great not bad.
I ordered a Paloma and that was probably my favorite part.
Overall, just ok. Probably a better spot for drinks, not sure that I would...
