The only reason this place got two stars is the food. They will never receive my business at this location again. I placed an online order for and 8pc Wong combo w/an up charge for substituting the fries for fried mushrooms. I didn't want the fries because my ride home was long & they wouldn't rewarm well. I also ordered a snack sized version of their Mozzarella. Upon my arrival there was a young lady in the back of the restaurant working on something and she told me to go to the bar to receive my food, but then once she realized he was on the phone with someone else she asked me had I paid already and what was my name. I repeated three times but with the mask I understood if she didn't understand me but when I spelled it out to refrain from repeating myself a fifth time and sometimes people don't know how my name is spelled, she stared at me like I grew another head, offended that I spelled it for her seeing as she brought me a receipt for someone else's order with a completely different name. Fast forward to my food coming out this time a young man brings my food. He says "you are going to have to go online to get your money back for the mushrooms." Because he said it so fast and just launched into talking I asked him to repeat it he huffs and says that they no longer serve the mushrooms so since there was an up charge and I paid online I would have to put the confirmation code in and request the refund. I said "okay so you all just gave me fries instead?" "Yea" " okay fine. Are my mozzarella triangles in the bag?" He says yes everything is in there. Seemingly bothered that I would even question it and walks off. Of course because I had issue during my last visit with incorrect food I checked, lo and behold no mozzarella also the plastic cover to the ranch has deformed from it going in the bag with the hot food and spilled the ranch. I ask for another top and the waitress offers me another and brings me napkins. From there I explain that my mozzarella was not in the bag. She goes to find the order ticket from the back and comes back and says "You didn't order them." After a back and forth of me explaining I ordered them. I just showed her my online receipt and she compares the two and says that they have no control over what the online system does and it didn't get sent to kitchen. That they pay an outside company to handle that. I expressed that was okay but were they going to get my food? because at this point no one has even acknowledged that it was being taken care of or if I was going to have to get my money back for those too. Not upset at this point, just confused. The waitress said yes we've just never had this problem before as if to say I was the problem all the while talking with her hands and slapping the receipt as if I cannot read what it said (which to the defense of the kitchen all it says was snack, not what kind of snack or anything so that's fair) I calmly let her know this was the second time this happened and I expressed that this is the second time that the order has not made to the kitchen in its entirety, that they as a business need to fix It still wasn't their problem and that "they didn't need to fix anything" Then yells at me from a 20 ft distance to the point where other costumers have now looked up from their meals, after she had walked away that "that's why They told me to called in and order. (I've never talked to them how could u tell me that?) Then proceeds to talk disparagingly about me to the other young man from earlier who lied to me about checking the order in the first place. Saying that I was wrong from telling them to fix the continual issue? I'm wrong to think that if YOU are paying a company for a service and they are causing issues that you cannot contact them have them fix this service so that it does not make you look bad as a business? If the online ordering is a continual issue shut it down or get it fixed but do not be disrespectful to the patron. By stomping away and rolling your eyes when all I wanted was the...
Read moreI am a Chicago Native from the west side and was excited to patronize and support this restaurant. My husband and I arrived at Harolds Chicken and Ice Bar at approximately 8:20PM. We immediately were instructed to seat ourselves by the sign placed upon entering. We seated ourselves and within about 10 minutes were waited on. The waitress took our food orders and said she would come back and take our drink orders. She never came back...We ordered 2 orders of 8 piece wings, Mozzarella triangles, and a pizza puff. We waited for about 15-20 for my appetizer which is the only thing we received, along with a HENNY margarita which we struggled to get. We left at approximately 10PM and literally received none of our food. Oddly we watched several orders of chicken come out and be given to people who came in and ordered way after us...I mean people literally sat down and within 15-20 minute received their chicken....We honestly, felt no one cared about our service....2 hours though....I honestly took it personal as if we didn’t look “Cashy enough” to received speedy service...and I see pattern of this in their reviews....as if they are discriminating certain patrons based on the likely hood of a tip which is unfair to assume certain groups won’t tip and actually makes you lose business.
We sat there for 2 hours and received no food....we were patient and accommodating and it seems that got us treated even worst...We explained the situation to the management and they were not really apologetic and offered us no service recovery for a 2 hour wait and receiving no food. We were actually asked to wait 30 more minutes to receive our order to go...Wow...we declined and paid our Bill and left.
It’s almost as if our service wasn’t wanted which was unfortunate because I planned to tip handsomely being a native Chicagoan myself. I was very disappointed and I’ll be patronizing this business but I would not recommend this location. The staff seem to be more interested in partying themselves than they are in providing fair and expeditious service. So we wasted 2 hours of our evening and by the time we left nothing was open for us to eat...I was honestly livid....Not recommended at all unless you want to waste your evening and leave hungrier than...
Read moreif i could give zero stars, i 100% would. our server was pretty inattentive off rip. she didn’t offer any type of menus or really any type of help beyond asking us what we wanted to drink. she checked on us once the entire time we had our food. i had to get up and go hunt her down to get our tabs closed! asked the bartender for the HOUSE margarita, and specified i wanted the $6.50 one. she read off liquor options when i asked what they were (for the $6.50 margarita) and charged me $17.50. i would understand this, but A) i asked for the cheaper margarita; top shelves are listed at $13.50. where would an extra $4 surcharge come from? B) instead of attempting to come to a solution, she kept insisting there was nothing she could do. not to mention, when i tried to communicate this with the bartender, she refused to listen to me OR my companion and kept repeating the same five sentences. i am a server, and actually work near harold’s. if you have auto-gratuity, you have to let the customers know. posting a tiny sign and posting the message in small printing on the menu is deceptive and disgusting. they up and overcharge like nobody’s business. seems like the only thing this establishment wants is money! they offered me no other reimbursement beyond a free margarita. you guys refuse to accommodate for customers whatsoever and have the gall to call yourselves a business? i hate that i’m so disappointed because i was so excited to find and try a black owned business near me as a black woman. i was expecting so much fun and a great experience, and instead harold’s lost two patrons that were just looking for a drink and a good bite to eat. spend your hard earned money elsewhere instead of getting horrible...
