I just had my wedding at the California Yacht Club which was absolutely amazing. The venue is beautiful, the surrounding marina is gorgeous, and it is simply a heavenly place to have a wedding ceremony and reception. The staff servers and bartenders are hard working and top notch. We truly loved the service on the day of the wedding. I would recommend this venue to anyone getting married. One suggestion, if you are getting married at this venue, find a different place for both the bride and groom to get ready before the wedding. There is no ideal location to get ready at the California Yacht Club. There was only one "bridal room" which was just a conference room with a huge conference table and a tiny mirror. Thankfully I had rented a room at the Marina del Rey Hotel to get ready with my girls. For the groom, there was nothing at all. He was told to go to the men's locker room which was a public bathroom for everyone, including Yacht Club members. When my fiancé arrived to get ready, there was a random man in there for 20 minutes relieving his bowels. That's definitely not an ideal place to get ready for a wedding. So just a heads up, find another place to prepare. Miki the events coordinator was good. She has coordinated weddings for many years now and knows what she's doing... most of the time. There were a few issues. During the months leading up to the wedding, she was a bit difficult to communicate with. I had sent a couple of emails that were never answered. I had to schedule actual face-to-face meetings to be able to speak to her at all. So it took my fiancé and me several trips to the venue to get simple questions answered. There were some details about the reception that I had tried to clarify with her many times that she completely disregarded. At first I thought maybe I was overthinking and worrying about details that I didn't need to worry about. However, on the day of the wedding, when I was trying to get my hair and makeup done, she began emailing me about the guest count and seating arrangement. Earlier I had emailed her the number of guests we assigned to each table. She emailed me saying that I listed more guests than what we originally told her and she was concerned that we may not have paid enough. Of course I panicked when I got that email (on my wedding day) and had several of my friends and family recount the number of guests I mentioned in the email. It turns out that I didn't mess up on the guest count. She had miscounted on her end! But rather than double check and correct her own mistake, she decided to email the bride hours before the wedding. This is something I had brought up days before the wedding but she didn't seem to worry about. But it is certainly not something that should be abruptly brought up on the day of the wedding with the bride. Another thing, Miki made a slightly insensitive comment during the rehearsal about how strange it was that I had 2 dads (my biological dad and stepdad). I was left feeling a little embarrassed. I'm a bit surprised that someone who has done so many weddings before has never dealt with brides or grooms who have two sets of parents. But even if you are presented with a family situation that is completely unusual, you don't make insensitive remarks about it. Other than that, Miki was good. The wedding itself went smoothly and I am very grateful to...
Read moreWedding 5/13/23. California Yacht Club was the first venue we looked at, and it was by far the best choice for us despite numerous other venues visited. We were so impressed with the space, the ambiance, and the staff. For anyone who has visited CYC before, please note that Miki Mootsey and Adam Spicer (both of whom were so helpful to us in the initial planning) are no longer with the company. Thankfully, Brooke Caress, the current Catering and Event Coordinator, was phenomenal in making sure our day matched our vision! Brooke and her team were extremely professional and detail oriented. Brooke walked us through the venue and the plan on multiple occasions and was willing to make any adjustments we wanted to make sure the event was perfect for us. She had great advice during the rehearsal and made sure everything went smoothly. She did so much for us before we even got to the venue on the day of to make sure everything was where we wanted it! We had the ceremony on the grass area, and then the staff converted it during the cocktail hour so we could have our dream outdoor reception. The food supplied by the venue was also absolutely amazing! We unreservedly recommend the filet mignon entree, which so many guests told us was the best steak they had ever had! For appetizers, we had beef wellington, artichoke bruschetta, and crab cakes, all of which were delicious. Brooke made sure we had appetizers and drinks in the bridal room after the ceremony to spend some time together as a couple before joining the crowd. Brooke and her team kept everything running smoothly with practically no involvement from us, which allowed us to enjoy the wedding, our family, and our friends even more than we expected. It was a wonderful day, made all the more amazing by the efforts of Brooke...
