Overall did not have a good experience living here..
I will start by touching on the positive aspects. The location is probably the best thing. You are situated right in the heart of the Marina in a safe neighborhood and blocks away from Venice beach. The building has 24 hour security, and the security team consist of really hard working nice people. The units are also quite spacious compared to other units in Marina del Rey. The outdoor heated pool and hot tub are great all year around.
And now on to the negative aspects. The architecture of the building is quite old. Therefore, if your unit is facing one of the courtyards, expect to hear EVERYTHING from your neighbors units, and I mean everything. I could hear people talking from within their units (normal voices, not shouting) across the courtyard, washing dishes, their TVs playing (this was the worst!), people returning home late at night, etc. For this same reason, it is also difficult to host people in the evenings, even on Friday and Saturday evenings. I was routinely getting noise complaints on the weekends (quite hours start at 10pm every night of the week) so I was discouraged from hosting people.
Another issue with the old architecture is that everything is constantly breaking down, and sadly, it often takes maintenance quite a while to respond to issues. Both my sinks were leaking for an entire month, and I had to threaten to stop paying rent before they finally fixed it. Additionally, the unit had a very low flow rate for hot water. After calling the maintenance team, they tell me that all the piping in the unit would need to be replaced. I did not go through with this highly invasive procedure as it would have releases asbestos into the air because they needed to tear down the roof. It would have been nice if they performed a routine inspection before handing off the units, as it would have caught this issue before I moved in.
As someone environmentally conscience, a big issue for me was that the building had absolutely no recycling of any sort, just a big garbage room. This is pretty disappointing for a building in a developed country.
The laundry system is also a joke. Each floor has a "laundry room", which is a closet containing a washer and dryer. Nearly half of these washing machines are broken and will just eat up your money. It is often a struggle to find one that works and that is unused!
Finally, don't expect to get your security deposit returned. They will make excuses to charge you for every little thing, and when I moved out they charged me even a little extra over my security deposit.
Overall, it was not a great experience living there. It is not a cheap place to live. For the amount I was paying, I was hoping to get more value from the place, but I found a lot of the time I was just having to accept substandard things.
Here's a hint. Don't listen to every reviews, only listen to the reviews which have multiple "thumbs up", which tend to be the...
Read moreI had an appointment initially at St Tropez, managed by the same company as another place I eventually toured instead. My first impression of st tropez is extremely negative. I have the leasing agent a range of $3000 and she texted me to say that the one bedroom starts at $3200 and change. Which I replied back right away that it was totally fine. She never answered my reply. On the day of the tour, she once again texted me that the price range was over $3200 and if I was still interested. I told her I had replied days prior when she first asked. I get the impression she had no desire to waste time with prospective clients.i was in the area an hour earlier. She said she’s going to lunch b. I asked if I could see it for 5 min. She said she’s still going to lunch. I walked around the area and not only found cooperative agents willing to show me around with Jo appointments, but nicer apartments as well. I’m particularly impressed with your leasing agent at the Dolphin Marina , right next door. Garin Egerton was very professional , look wise and communicative wise and showed me around the common areas and the studios and one bedrooms. My experience with Nicole gave me no desire to even look at st tropes. I actually honored my initial 3 pm appointment and she was late from lunch. Beyond unprofessional and rude and I would never recommend anyone to go look at those apartments not waste their time with an agent who has nothing better to do than discourage people and be tardy for an appointment that showed up early, clams back on time and she still did t have the courtesy to be there at the appt time. Major kudos to Garin at Dolphin. He made my...
Read moreWas really excited about their one bedroom apartments and everything looked great so Booked a tour for 1:30PM, they emailed and texted several times me to confirm, Showed up at 1:30 and there was no guest or future residence parking then I walk up to the entry door ring the lease office no one answers and there was no security at the lobby or anyone to let me in. Finally a random guy lets me the lobby was mess with packages all around and lots of constructions workers coming and going but no security or management to be find, really unsafe and unusual for the buildings in this area. After waiting 25 minutes for Andrew to come back from another showing he first realize that they had double booked so had to cancel on send away another guy he was nice but really unprofessional and a mess. Then asked for my ID like every other apartment complex which I handed to him but he asked me to scan a QR code and validate through CLEAR with facial recognition! Seemed intrusive but okay I tried three different times but each time the pages froze up, he made me log on to their wifi and try again but still wouldn't work and the page just keep freezing I told him he can get a copy of my ID instead and also I had my passport card with me so he can check that one too, but he called his manger explaining the whole thing to him over and over. At the end he refused to do the tour per his manger's direction all while there is sign on his desk saying they need a valid CA ID present to tour the property! They wasted an hour of my time and if this is how they handle a tour I can only imagine how Maintenace request are managed. Wouldn't...
