Bob Evans — Restaurant in Maryland

I ordered out online for a family meal. I got the email confirmation saying it would be ready at 4:50 pm I arrived and waited in line. As I waited you could tell they were understaffed. People were all over the place. People at the register were doing the hostess job and the register along with running to get stuff in the back. I was the second person in line and the customer in front of me and another employee talked while she was waiting on the girl to get her stuff together. Another employee stood at the other register looking busy. So I waited patiently and not one person had aknowledged me being there. Someone else walked in and went to the empty register and someone came right up to her so I thought okay I’ll go to that register. I tell them my order and the name and the girl says she can’t find it after she admits that she doesn’t really know how to work it. So I tell her no big deal she ask for help and they still can’t find it so they retake my order and tell me they are gonna get it ready right now. So I patiently wait again but this time I waited for 40 minutes until I got my food and as I stood and waited I watched what a mess that place was. The kitchen staff didn’t have a clue what they were doing as they scrambled around looking for what they needed and they didn’t have half of the stuff prepared that the waitresses were waiting on & mind you the restaurant wasn’t very busy at all but there was 6-8 people waiting on takeout. I witnessed two people waiting on soup for a good 15-20 min and everyone that had a takeout that came in before me left before me. During this whole event the only thing I was offered was a drink. I don’t want a drink I just wanted my meal that I shouldn’t have had to wait on for 40 minutes. And to top it all off when we got home our turkey was cold and our macaroni & cheese was cold it was like they pooped it in the microwave for 30 seconds and it’s less than a 5 min drive from the restaurant to our house. Full disclosure, my family loves diners but we've seen so many go downhill with rubbery prefab food, no imagination, disinterested servers, and atmosphere that feels like a wake. Of the other nearby family restaurants, one is a fast-disappearing chain because they have a boring, badly prepared menu and the other should be renamed Diabetes Central. Not Bob Evans. They have all the comfort food and comfortable atmosphere everyone goes to a diner for, and yet they keep up with the times so there is something new and different like the healthy chicken pecan salad, which my best friend and I really enjoyed. I recommend the breakfast tacos, and when my best friend saw my sister's turkey dinner, she said, "I'm coming back for that!"

When my husband, Mark, and I visited the area several years ago, we went to that Bob Evans for all our meals. We got to know our usual server (Robert), who treated us like old friends. Husband and I hadn't been on a date in a minute so we got dressed up and hit the road. Landed at Bob Evans. We had never eaten at this location before. The hostess was a young girl with not much personality, but sadly, that's most young girls these days. However, our waitress, ohhh this girl was on it. I can't remember her name but she had reddish hair and so sweet and pleasant. Not to mention, extremely diligent. Girl was kicking out order after order, cleaning tables off and in the middle of it all still checking tosee if we needed refils and asking how our food was. The hostess came to complain to her about something and she told her she didn't care and to go seat someone. Now, let's get to our order, everything came out PERFECT! My husband got some breakfast thing lol and I got a skillet. Eggs were perfect, meat was on point, good flavor, food was hot. I'm a little picky when it comes to my drinks. I ordered a caramel mocha but I wanted it over ice with extra caramel drizzle. When she brought it over she ask if it was good because she did her best and let me tell ya, it truly was perfect.
