April 2025 edit: I walked in and ordered two of their regular rolls to go. It took 45 minutes on a not busy night. Not coming here again.
Original review: I walked in during the evening and ordered take out. I got an eel roll, the Crispy Shrimp Mountain Roll, and a salmon nigiri.
It took 30 minutes even though there were only two people (at the same table) eating in the restaurant. It didn't seem like they had any other orders come through so I don't really know why it took so long.
There was a massive bone in my eel roll and there were portions of the eel that were really hard and barely edible. I ended up spitting out the last two pieces of my roll.
The Crispy Shrimp Mountain Roll was also just so odd and not what I expected. It came in a bowl which is already weird, and the roll was at the bottom covered in a massive pile of fried shrimp. The proportions were so off it was comical at how much fried shrimp I had left after eating the actual roll. This one also did not taste very good. Maybe their eel overall was just off tonight and messed with the flavor.
The salmon nigiri was fine though, thank goodness.
Maybe tonight was an off night but at this point I can't...
Read moreI'm sorry to have to write this review, especially about a neighborhood restaurant. But I feel responsible to share an unfortunate incident about 1.5 weeks ago with food I took home as leftovers (bulgogi on rice). I should mention that I already had hairline fractures in two of my molars, and I needed to get crowns before something happened. Before I was able to get crowns, there was a small rock or stone in the bulgogi leftovers and I chomped down hard on it, causing one of those molars to split vertically (yes it hurt!). It was too damaged for a crown or even a root canal; today I had to have the tooth extracted and a rod placed in my jaw bone, preparing for an implant in a few months. This is setting me back about $2700.
Obviously, I cannot hold the restaurant responsible for breaking my tooth; I already had fractures and I was eating the leftovers at home. But I just want the restaurant to know that there was a small rock in their food and they need to be more careful, lest this happen to...
Read moreConsistently great service and good, affordable food. My favorites are: the Bu Bim Bap beef rice bowl and the teriyaki beef and kalbi dinner, as well as the spicy tuna and various California rolls. Friends have enjoyed the eel and the monument rolls.
One experience that stands out to me: I was unwell and just needed good food I didn't have to stand up and cook, so I ordered from them. When I went to pick it up the owner saw that I was sick and not only wished me well, but gave me a HUGE container of miso soup for free to help me get well. I was so touched because I felt so poorly and her kindness really touched me.
I have recommended this spot to visiting family and they too had a great experience with the food AND service.
Tip: IKKO Sushi is a neighborhood staple (popular and folks like to linger a bit over their meal) and it offers Groupons fairly often, so it is bustling on the weekends. Therefore, you're well-advised to make a...
