Food is good and I was seated pretty quickly, but my server was not attentive. He was cordial, but I constantly had to wait and ask other servers for help whenever I needed something. First, I was turned off by the fact that the floor area under my table was dirty causing me to step on a half eaten biscuit. (Which I kicked away in front of the server) I could have moved, but I liked the privacy of the corner. My next issue was that the server placed the bill and another drink in front of me literally a minute after I was given my food. It made me feel like he was saying "let me just get you out of the way, so I can concentrate on others." The early bill placement made me feel as if I needed anything else, I would have a hard time reaching out to him, and I was proven right. When I was ready to put my food away. I had to wait for him to pass by to ask for a container. He dropped it off pretty quickly and was on to the next customer. I struggled with the lid of the container as it was not giving a tight seal. I then had to wait again to get his attention. After getting his attention, he quickly handed me a 2nd lid which was problematic as well. By this time, I was annoyed and reached out to another server who literally stopped everything she was doing to assist with the container. She then gave up with the current container and went to the front to retrieve a completely different one. She is a classic example of customer service. A little time goes a long way, Tyler. Then when it was time to pay my bill, I thought I had to pay at the front. When I arrived at the front, I was told, that my server needed to ring me up. Once again, I had to wait for him. At this point, I had, had it with his inattention. As I verbalized my feelings of annoyance, a gentleman at the front (I'm assuming was the manager) offered his apology and a discount. Thank you sir! You and the food are the reason, I didn't give a 2 star rating. Please realize that some people eat out for the service. I cook very well and could have eaten at home (as I always do), but I just wanted to have a treat on my day off. Word to the servers, I understand that your job is not easy and you can't satisfy everyone, but I think it's safe to say that it's a bit rude to place a bill on the table when the customer hasn't even started his or her meal. And if you must place the bill early, make sure the customer is ok and doesn't...
Read moreTo start, this review is based off of two trips.
The first trip I came solo, as I often do, to check on the place before dropping money for my whole family.
I was blown away. The service was great, my water was refilled each time it reached halfway, and my server was knowledgeable. I'm vegan and I was very happy with the selection. I ordered garlic knots and an 8 inch pizza. The server recognized that I was ordering vegan and informed me the marinara has mozzarella in it, and suggested switching it out for pizza sauce, with she informed me could be heated up to make up for the marinara. I was ecstatic. When my food arrived I happily ate all of the garlic knots (they are big knots!) and my pizza had a great distribution of toppings. I was very excited. Places that are both good quality and convenient to my location are infrequent.
Cut to today.
We arrived and were seated instantly and our order taken right away. Our waitress was very kind and made accommodations for us outside because the weather was nice. After ordering, however, the trip went a bit south. I ran out of water on my first glass and it was never refilled. We got the fried pickles this time. They seemed to be prepared correctly, but were about the crispness of potato chips, a bit too crunchy for my tastes. The batter was cornmeal. I'm not detracting for this, it's just not my favorite. The pizza was decent (quite thin on toppings), but my daughters half had red onions, which we asked be omitted. I shared my half of the pizza with her because she absolutely dislikes onion, as do I, on pizza. When our server came back we got a box for the last non-onion slice and left the onion half there. The manager did ask if we'd want another pie made, but I didn't want to take a whole pizza home that would go to waste. In the end we were charged the full price of the pizza. For my daughter and myself that made 34 dollars. With tip 41 dollars.
My first experience was a 5, but unfortunately my second was a two. I'm averaging out to a three because little effort was made to correct our pizza plight on our second visit.
Best thing you could do currently is come for LUNCH. My lunch experience...
Read moreI was delighted about a month ago to find out that The Flying Biscuit had a Matthews location. I had two take-out biscuits and they were Wonderful! I don’t always work in Matthews, but I did this weekend, and missed getting there in the morning, so I stopped by about 2:20pm on Saturday to grab a couple of biscuits to eat when I got home. The biscuits were still enjoyable! The mngr was just going to “give them to me” but I insisted that he take $5.00. We had a pleasant exchange and I told him that I tell everyone that The Flying Biscuit had THE BEST biscuits. Sunday, I did get there earlier, 9:30 am and the place was PACKED, as it usually is. The mngr said, “Oh you came back!” “Yep! I got here before work today.” I paid for 2 biscuits, they gave me three and a coupon I could use later. The exchange was pleasant as it was the day before. 10:30am I went to eat my biscuits, and they were like Ellie Mae Clampett made them. Like rocks. Dry, hard and not flakey at all. I brought them back at 2:30pm for a refund, and I said to the mngr, “don’t make me submit a bad review.” (I wasn’t going to) This is when he got ugly with me, drilling me with “what time did I eat them” (an hour after I purchased them) told me that people make mistakes and I said I used to work at McDonalds and they have an expiration time to sell specific items. These were clearly day old or reheated. He said, “You just go to McDonald’s and get your biscuits.” I’ve worked in the restaurant industry and very fine places in the past, and he could have just addressed it differently, “Thanks for bringing it to our attention, I’ll let the service and cooks know.” But, no. He took it all personally, so here I am, to WARN people that they need to check for “freshness” status of their order so that you don’t duped with “leftovers” that have been sitting around for a while. Especially, take-out orders. Apparently, The Flying Biscuit biscuits are only good within the hour according to our exchange on Sunday. I waited too long to eat them. I’m sad that it came to this. And I’m also sad to say, that if The Flying Biscuit has managers like this, they can forget about opening a Flying Biscuit in...
