Of all of the amazing places Maui has to offer, I don't think any topped my experience at Dino's! I came here based on the stellar reviews, and was a bit skeptical that it could actually live up to the hype. However, after talking with Dino for about 10 minutes, I could see in his eyes, and hear in his voice the passion that he has for food. I've been in the restaurant business for over a decade and you can tell when someone has their heart and soul in it, and it really shows in the product!
Being my first time, I asked Dino what the best thing was on the menu. He mentioned the burger was what he was famous for, but I could sense some hesitation that HE actually felt it was his best item. I love Greek food and gyros, and could tell he was leaning more that way, but the Blue Cheese Burger was voted the best burger in America. I decided it was best to just get both so I could decide.
Watching the burger be made was an experience in itself. It was carefully handcrafted and dressed. I knew I was in for a treat! I decided to eat that first, and see what all the fuss was about. The first bites were incredible! Amazing flavor, and perfect! I have to admit, towards the middle it did dry out a bit. I thought back to Dino's comment at this point -
"...everyone loves it, but I don't consider myself a burger person."
Still, I was very impressed and had I only had the burger, would probably give a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
Then I tried the gyro...OMG, I'm so glad I got both! Don't get me wrong, the burger was great, but I wish I would have just gone with the gyro. It wasn't anything like a traditional gyro I've had hundreds of times before. This was a completely unique flavor and texture that caught me completely off guard! Pair that with the amazing fries drizzled in aoili garlic sauce and it's pure heaven! I read a review that said the fries tasted like cardboard, and Lordy if that is the case, that person must have some delicious cardboard! I loved them!
All in all, based on the price, the execution, the service and product, I would absolutely put this as...
Read moreBad experience at Dino's. Went to Dino's today, a busy Saturday at lunchtime. After a long wait, I ordered a regular (beef/lamb) gyro. When my order came, I sat at a table only to discovered I was given the wrong order. What I got as some kind of meatless mush wrap. Not wanting to wait in another long line to complain and then another long wait to finally get the correct order, I simply gave up and tried to eat what I was given. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. I not only disliked the item, I found it disgusting. It tasted like ground up hummus in a sickeningly sweet barbecue sauce, or similar concoction. Not to my taste at all, but particularly galling since it was not what I ordered or paid for. I guess it's my fault for waiting in line (again) to complain and insist on what I ordered. I won't make that mistake again. I will not be back, nor will my wife who's burger was woefully overcooked. Others may have better luck but I'd advise staying away during the...
Read moreDino's is a must stop for any burger lover visiting Maui. First thin first. . . . The burger: If you order a burger you will get a first class burger made by a person who is passionate about making the best handcrafted burger that he (a haute-cuisine trained chef) can make.
At the risk of sounding judgmental I'll say, most people who order and eat his burger likely don't deserve it. It is unique and it is perfectly executed. Every ingredient has careful consideration. The patty is local grass fed beef and (heads up!) it has an amazing sauce poured over it (I am usually not a fan of patties with sauce, but you have to trust Dino on this and go with it). The bun is soft enough for your teeth to easily sink past it, but it still holds up to the last bite.
It is all served over a bed of fries that are also very well executed. It is hard to imagine that this plate came from such a small trailer.
When I ordered Dino told me exactly how many minutes before it would be ready and was...
