I had the pleasure of dining here at DUO at the four seasons about a week ago. Let me just say I was very impressed with both the service and quality of the food. I went on Friday which host the Hawaiian Churascas night. If you don't know or are not sure it is a Brazilian BBQ Hawaiian style. We started off the evening with a beautiful seasonal lavender infused lemonaid with mint and vodka. This was a great way to start the evening. It was well balanced and all the flavors came thru without overwhelming each other. I'm not a big drinker and I considered ordering another because it was so delicious.
Then we moved on to the appetizers, they were beatifully arranged and incredible tasting. One of my favorites was the Israeli cous cous. The fresh mozzarella with tomatoes was also excellent and the beet salad was a nice blend of earthy and sweet. There was also a very generous self serve salad bar which included a nice selection of cheese and charcuterie. Then we moved on to the main event of the evening which was the various cuts of meat. We we're not disappointed, there were two cuts of beef from a flank to a prime cut. There was also bacon wrapped chicken, leg of lamb, double smoked pork belly ( one of my favorites) , pineapple with cumin cinamon and brown sugar. The beautiful thing is they will keep bringing you as much as you want as long as you have your green go sign up. We we're also able to try the mashed potatoes and glazed brussel sprouts with smoked meat. I have had brussel sprouts from a lot of places but these were incredible. The perfect blend of smokey salty with a tinge of sweet. They were perfection on a plate. Now let me say we we're already overwhelmed with incredible food and then it happened one of the persons in our party ordered the seafood towed and the mahi mahi. Let me just say when they say seafood tower, they are not joking around. It was two levels of glorious seafood, there were oysters, crab claws, shrimp, and various pokes. The amazing touches we're the lemons limes and calamansi that we're cut up and placed among the seafood treasure chest. It was all incredible. The mahi mahi that came was also done to perfection. To finish off and already incredible night we we're treated to banana soufle with banana ice cream and bananas foster which by the way came to the table lit with that beautiful blue alcohol flame. This is definitely a night and a meal I will not forget soon. If your not sure eat here, you won't be sorry. It has a little something for everyone and a lot of meat for those who are brave or craving it. Either way it a deal you can't pass up and well worth it. Oh and if your a local show them your i.d. they got you covered. Aloha...
Read moreI have very torn feelings about this restaurant. Located in the absolutely beautiful 4 Seasons Resort, the restaurant is upscale while being casual and comfortable. The customer service can not be better. Our waitress was responsible for quite a few tables yet she made it feel like we were her only. She constantly checked on how everything was going. In addition to never allowing our water to run low, she even would change out my wife's soda if it became too watered down, at no additional charge. On top of all that, the restaurant manager went table to table asking how things were going and if anything could be done to improve our experience.
I deducted a star because some of the food was very disappointing, particularly the steak. "Steak" is in the name, it needs to be a star.
We started off with Caesar salad and crab cakes. Caesar salad was okay at best, the crab cakes on the other hand were tasty and perfectly crisp. For our entrees, I ordered the 35 day aged bone-in ribeye, the most expensive single food item on the menu. After you order this particular steak, they present to you a box of custom knives to choose from to use for your meal: a very nice touch. But for $115, the steak was very disappointing. At that price point, it should be cooked to perfection and melt in your mouth. I ordered it medium rare, it came to me much closer to rare. It was also a bit chewy. You also definitely taste that "aged" flavor. I liked it, but it may be off-putting to some. My wife ordered the natural ribeye, medium rare. Her steak came rare, almost blue. The seasoning they used for it wasn't that great either. When you have a good steak, you shouldn't be using strong seasonings that mask the meat. Your entrees are ala carte, so we ordered the buttermilk potato puree, which is a very fancy way of saying mashed potatoes, and the truffle Mac and cheese. Both were good, I have no complaints there. Lastly, we ordered the banana cream pie and chocolate mousse for dessert. Both of which were also very good. After our meal, they gave us a complimentary little brownie which was perfectly thick and chocolaty, and a plate of strawberry cotton candy. It was cute and actually quite tasty as well. Definitely a nice way to end the evening.
Food is hit or miss here, but mostly miss considering how much it costs. Come for the experience, the atmosphere and the customer service,...
Read moreThis is a disappointing review to write because I wish I had more positives to say. Before coming to Maui I was MOST excited for this meal but was left the most let down. Check my dining history - my wife and I travel the world. The fact that this restaurant shares the same space at the Four Seasons with Spago and Ferraros is a major confusion given the lackluster level of service and food compared to its price point.
Please understand I have a 5 star review in place for Spago where I spent $200/pp so this is not a review of the price but a certain level of expectation spending this level of money. At $95 for an ala carte 8oz filet I expect perfection or at least AN ATTEMPT to be close to this.
Duo just fell so incredibly flat and question if it was a waste of my money.
We ordered milk bread to start, my wife a wedge salad, and myself the crab legs. We received the appetizers - the wedge salad with blue cheese and egg that my pregnant wife had asked to remove due to restrictions. We impatiently waited about 20-30 minutes before our waitress finally returned to the table acting as if not much had occurred. She offered to refresh my wife’s salad and seemingly needed the reminder for our bread. By this time, my crab legs ice bowl had melted and completely soaked and ruined the crab meat on my plate.
Fast forward to dinner and the steak was incredibly tasteless. I expected a rich dry age filet - I got a steak which lacked juiciness, seasoning, and was presented rather cold. Hate to say it, but a steak from Longhorn may have been better. The “potato purée” was not much better.
The truffle mac and cheese though was memorable. Duo also receives two stars as it does offer a tasty breakfast I do recommend. Get...
