You walk in and order, then go to a table with a number and sit down and they bring your drinks out then your food out to you. When we come in, the lady that took our order wouldn’t let me substitute fried rice for the white rice and macaroni salad. Said I would have to add it on as a side for $5.00. Couldn’t substitute it. So I just go with double white rice instead of the macaroni. My wife orders fried shrimp. Also we just wanted water to drink. The lady gives us the number 01 to put at the end of our table. We go sit down, guy fixes two little 8oz cups of ice water and walks around the restaurant a few times and I’m watching him wondering why he isn’t bringing us our water. Finally he realizes we are the only people in the restaurant without drinks and bring them over to us with a confused look on his face. Within a couple minutes we are already out of water. When our food comes out, the lady walks out and with a confused look walks around the restaurant trying to figure out whose food this is. I finally wave her down and say uh I think that’s ours! She says why did the lady give you the number 01? It’s supposed to be 50. 🤷♂️🤷♂️ I said I don’t think the lady that took our order knew what was going on at all. That explains why everyone serving us was so confused. So after our food gets there and still no water, I walk over to the kitchen with our water cups and stood there until the manager seen me and comes over to get me some water. I asked if we could take the pitcher back to our table since no one has refilled our drinks and he said let me just get you a couple big cups so he did that! He was the only one there that actually showed he cared. The steak was delicious! Won’t be coming back here again because of the service and lack of customer accommodations and not being able to...
Read moreLocated in the cannery mall between Safeway and Starbucks, Kalei's might be easy to miss but a visit is certainly recommended. Interior is bright, clean and modern and the food is really good. Prices are very reasonable.
The smoked meat plate was unique and tasted quite good. Their brussel sprouts withhurricane sauce was the highlight of the meal. Not exactly healthy but the sauce and sprouts tasted fantastic (there was some bitterness from the brussel sprout though). Portions are generous and they have some good deals. When we there they were selling a burger with fries and a bowl of saimin for $12. Chicken katsu was fried well and not greasy.
One little quirk is that you order and pay from the front counter. You can sit down at a table and decide what you want to eat bit you have to walk bacl to the front desk to order.
From what I saw Kaleis seems to cater to locals and people eat here and leave fairly quickly. Thats a shame. With its clean modern decor and good food, Kaleis is nice place for tourists to eat...
Read moreStopped by after our surf lessons around 10:30 on Wednesday as a recommendation by our local surf instructors. We had no expectations and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of food. The restaurant is right next to Safeway so there’s plenty of parking and easy to find. We had to order at the check in/ hostess counter then sit down, which is unusual for us but I guess it’s a thing on Maui. We ordered all kinds of breakfast plates and pancakes. The breakfast fried rice was the best on the island if not the best we had ever had. Pancakes were excellent, especially the banana pancakes. Good flavors and texture. Thick, fluffy, and just a bit chewy which we loved. We have been having a hard time finding great pancakes on the island, these were the best of the 5 places we had tried on Maui. Service was quick and very friendly. Prices are very reasonable and much cheaper than most breakfasts on the island. Overall great experience. To be honest I could eat here every day if we...
