TLDR: if you are here for one day and have to pick one café for breakfast, brunch, or lunch, pick this one. Get a pastry.
Okay, listen. I went here 10 days in a row. Most of the time at opening and once around noon time. There was always a line. I got there usually 15 minutes before opening and was usually within the first 10 in line. The one time I arrived around noon all of the pastries served at opening were gone. But that doesn't mean they didn't have options. The selection changes as the day goes. There were several different sweet bread types, brownies, tres leches, and cheesecake. They have bottled water, kombucha drinks, and a full café menu. They offer lunch menu options. My favorite was the caprese on a croissant. There are also tea/finger sandwiches, a few days had the carving board cut turkey sandwiches. Some sandwiches had lettuce and other vegetable toppings and others were all meat. They do have plain croissants with a flaky, crunchy outer shell and soft bread inside and have large boxes for large to go orders for breakfast meetings or luncheons. The medialunas is the thing to get if you want a croissant with a little sweetness and no filling, but if you're in the mood for full on decadence then there are cream, custard, and Nutella croissants. Also, the classic cinnamon roll and fruit tart. Solid choices. There was a breakfast menu option that had dishes like avocado toast and smoothies, but tbh I only looked at it once because I was more for the grab and go option rather than wait for something to be made. The only, and it is such a minor downside, is that it takes a bit to get café drinks. There is one station, so drinks are obviously made one at a time. It isn't a crazy long wait, but it takes a few minutes to make drinks and that adds up when there is a line out the door as soon as the store opens. The eating area itself is so comfortable. In the afternoon there were people sitting around with their laptops or hanging with friends. Plenty of seating and a complimentary water station. There are a few vases and various decorative items around the store for sale. If you're eating in then the food is served on stoneware and the drinks are in stoneware mugs or glasses depending on what you get and there's a small station to place dirty dishes when you're done. It is very...
Read moreI happened to be working in town, and my wife and I decided to meet for a coffee and try this cute, highly rated coffee shop. It's a busy place and so no parking available in the one way lot that gets congested by people waiting for a spot to park. There were no tables available, but I waited and got a table before my wife finished ordering our latte, Americano, and a piece of quiche . My wife asks for the quiche to be warmed up. When she gets the quiche, it's not even close to warm. So she goes up to the RUDE French middle-aged employee and asks her if she could please warm it up some more. The horrible employee proceeds to tell her that she already heated it up and she'll do it this time, but if she asks again, we will be told to LEAVE???? My wife is mortified and comes to tell me about the interaction. Within 5 minutes, the crazy employee comes to our table to berate us about asking to heat it up. She says my wife has done this before and rambles on. We had never even been there before and WILL NEVER EVER THINK ABOUT IT OR LET ANYONE WE KNOW GO BACK! I have never seen an employee or God forbid an owner act like that to a paying customer. Just WOW!.
Well, now that I have the owner saying I'm racist because I described the exact employee that provided the service. She was middle age, French and beyond rude to us. So either that was the owner we are reviewing, which would be INSANE to own a business and treat people like this or they don't care about their customers and would rather call me racist than review their security footage to confirm the interaction or fix the problem. Mind your P's and Q's for this place if you want to go for so so coffee and poor service....
Read moreAs a 30+ year professional restaurant manager, I feel fully qualified to offer the owner or manager of Mamona's some constructive criticism. I have personally been a customer of Mamona's for about 3-4 years and have developed an understanding over time of some service issues that in my mind would give them a huge opportunity to improve upon. The single biggest issue to me is the speed of service is unacceptable! I routinely have to wait more than 15 minutes just to get to the point where I can place my order. This could be improved dramatically if you would move the espresso machine to the back counter or create a new side counter on the side of the employee aisle behind the counter. Then replace it with another register. This would speed up service by 100% and reduce the wait in half! Think of all the new sales you could be ringing up! You could even consider moving the counter forward to allow for additional room for the extra employees you would need back there to service your clientele. The other problem I saw today is that you ran out of plain croissants before 9am! I waited 15+ minutes to get to the counter to order and then told that you were completely out of plain croissants. Why? Why not make more if you're out? You've only been open since 7am and you're out before 9am? How can that be acceptable? I left your competition because they didn't make enough croissants. Do you want the same from me? If not, I would suggest you make more. Running out that early in the shift is not good...
