I want to start with I've tried Hawaiian ice at several places as I drive through Maui. Toby's was excellent! I was very surprised that they not only had Hawaiian ice but also coffee and most importantly poke bowls and ceviche. I live in California and having fresh fish or eating sushi or poke bowls is a common occurrence, however, never have I seen it be created to order with such fresh fish. The results were amazing. Simple menu, they ask you what you want your ceviche made with or they ask you what flavors you want in your poke bowl and they cut the fish right then and there. They make it very fresh. They also have some really cool hats on a back row maybe a shelf of I don't know I'd say 25 different hats all of them really really cool. There's plenty of room to sit outside and people watch on their patio and they have one of those funny little picture taking types of setups where you can put your face into somebody else's body. So... if you're driving by to Mama's Fish House stop on your way back and get dessert there. If you go see the surfers at the North Shore stop and get an ice and if you need lunch or dinner great-great-great poke bowls. But I must say... The absolute winner is the ceviche we had ours made with coconut milk...

I was really looking forward to trying the shave ice at Tobi’s. The day prior, I had noticed they offer natural kiwi flavor, an option I hadn’t seen this far. We came back that night, but they closed earlier than I had realized.

We drove through town the next day, so I decided to stop. When I looked closer at the menu, I realized that they charge $1 for the natural flavors. You can get up to 3 flavors, so if you want to stick with the natural options, it’s an extra $1 per flavor.

I decided to stick with kiwi anyway. My wife was interested in the sour grape, so I ordered that as well. The kiwi was bland, and the sour grape, well, in my opinion, it was just grape, not tart whatsoever.

I can’t speak to the poke, and maybe that’s where this place shines. But if you’re looking for shave ice, there are at least two other places in Paia that offer a...

Maui food you’ve gotta try! I’m in Hawaii this week with my family and we’ve had so much amazing food! I could literally triple this list but here are 5 spots I recommend: 🚚 KIHEI FOOD TRUCK COURT - We loved dining here because all of the food trucks were delicious and offered a variety of options like burgers, sushi, and even Cajun. My favorite was Suns Out Buns Out that served gourmet bao. Pricing was around $7-$8 per bao. Find this spot near the Azeka Mauka mall. 🍩 MAUI ONO DONUTS – Best cake donuts I’ve ever had! Made on the spot from a food truck in Kihei. Flavors include churro, maple, Oreo, chocolate macadamia nut and more. Donuts are about $3.50 each. 🌴 PAIA – We visited a couple of spots for amazing food in Paia. The first was Toby’s where we tried the poke and shoyu chicken (about $19 a plate). The second was Ululani’s Shave Ice which was the best shave ice I’ve ever had! The syrup was perfectly thick and deliciously sweet! 🍤 TOMMY BAHAMA – The Wailea mall has an awesome Tommy Bahama restaurant that shouldn’t be passed up! The food and service were excellent but the coconut shrimp stood out to me! 🌟 Follow for more foodie adventures! #maui #mauifood #hawaii #hawaiifood #shaveice #poke #donuts #bao
