Winking Lizard Mayfield — Restaurant in Mayfield Heights

The first time my wife and I went to this location the experience and the food was fabulous. A month later, we decided to return. The experience was TERRIBLE, but the food was ok. First, the server approached the table and said, "What do you want?" Usually, a server says, "How are you? My name is _. What can I start you with? None of this happened. The server's behavior reflected that he didn't want to be there, or just did not want to serve our table. After we ordered drinks, the server returned to take our order. My wife ordered a veggie pizza, but she asked for sausage to be added. The server made a smart remark about her order. He said, "It's a veggie pizza but you're adding sausage. Then, he laughed. Afterwards he said, "I'm just messing with you." My wife and I don't know the server well enough for him to make remarks like that. That's a remark that you make when you know someone well. He is suppose to be a professional and his remark was unprofessional and judging. Not appreciated. Once our food arrived, my wife's order was wrong. A cheese and sausage pizza was delivered, which was completely incorrect. The server checked his order input and tells another female server about the incorrect pizza delivery (I guess she was a server. She didn't introduce herself.) Our server then tells the female, "It wasn't me. I didn't put in the wrong order." No one apologized for the inconvenience. The female took the pizza back to the kitchen. About 10-minutes later, the female came back with the correct order. While we were eating, the server walked by the table and asked "You good?" Then, he kept walking. We said, "Yes." I'm not really not sure if he heard us because he kept walking. He did not come back to see if we need refills on beverages either. My wife and I were ready to leave because the experience was awful and felt completely disrespected by the server's behavior and lack of professionalism. We asked the server, in a polite manner, (hoping he would be polite in return) for a box to take the rest of the pizza home. The server left our table and wiped down two other tables, checked his phone, watched some tv then decided to bring a to-go box to our table. However, he didn't give us the to-go box. He just threw the to-go box on the table. That was it! My wife and I looked at each other, we knew his actions and behavior were not an accident. He was being rude on purpose. We have no idea why. But, we definitely know that we WILL NOT...

Really wish I had the good experience I see everyone else had in their reviews. Didn’t even think I would ever give a place this low of a rating. It only gets two stars because of the patio and fire pit was very nice. We got there and the host was nice and showed us our seats outside as requested but we weren’t greeted by a server or even acknowledged for a good fifteen minutes. I got up and politely went to ask someone if a server was available for us yet because we been sitting for a while and it’s getting closer to close time for the kitchen. They pointed out the server to me, who was working outside and I watched as she continuously checked on every table out there EXCEPT our table.

When the server was coming back in from the patio i stopped her and politely asked if she was responsible for our table (because if she was, I didn’t really understand why she wasn’t coming to our table. Besides our table, there were two other tables with a party of 2 each, and were just checking on them and having conversation). She coldly informed me that “she was getting to me” even though she didn’t even look at us let alone greet us to let us know she would just be a moment. I come back and sit down and a group of 6 white men sit beside us and she greets them immediately and was friendly and efficient, which was a complete 180 from how she behaved towards me. They got their drink orders in and brought out before she even came to us to get our drink order or even hand us menus even though WE were there for a now total of 20 minutes!

Now onto the food. I got the loaded chicken nachos. Everything was charred . You didn’t taste anything other than burnt pieces. The chips were stale, and the cheese was stuck to the chips and the chicken was lukewarm as if it was sitting for a while or microwaved. My burger (I asked to be cooked medium) was past well done and burnt. The $4 loaded side fries I paid for was old tasting and barely had any bacon or cheese toppings. I would’ve complained and asked for a redo, but by the time we got our food it was past 10 and the kitchen was closed. We took the food to go and gave it to a homeless man we saw at the bus stop. Went to Winking Wizard on Valentine’s Day for dinner with my wife. Had a great meal and awesome service and thought this place is great.

I returned on Tuesday for a quick bite to eat. It was about 7:15 PM. First as I was walking up, a group of twenty people were walking out. Thought nothing of it. When I get inside and ask for a table, I was told there was a 25 minute wait. There was a couple seated and waiting as well. I was also told I could go to the bar area. I was not too keen on that since I do not drink, but went anyway. Passing the dining area, i saw many open tables and went to the bar area where there were many open tables and sat at one.

A waitress came and asked if I was seated by a server and I said no. She told me I would have to wait to be seated since the kitchen can’t keep up with the orders.

WHAT??????

I was extremely annoyed and walked out the restaurant and started to look up other restaurant but to no avail. So I went back in. I then watched as another 15 people leave the restaurant and there I sat waiting. I waited about twelve minutes and the waitress who told me I had to be seated was the one who was seating me now. When we get to bar area she guides me to table and I ask for the table that I originally sat at, which was in her serving area and she said that this table is being served right now by another waitress.

I was so annoyed but hungry so I took the seat. Remarkably after I was seated, the bar area filled up included the next people that walked in were seated at the table I wanted.

For the meal I ordered hot wings, loaded fries and Ice tea. The food was good and the service from my waitress great, but after that debacle I highly doubt i would go again nor would I advise others to go.
