My first, and last time there. Worst experience I ever had at a restaurant. I went because my friend wanted the anniversary (June 7) souvenir glass they were handing out after 6pm. Got there at 5:30pm, and at first our server was attentive, and we asked about the anniversary souvenir glass. Our server did let us know that the souvenir glass was going to be available after 6pm with the purchase of a beer. He knew our main reason for our presence there was to try the food, and to get the souvenir glass. We placed our food order, and after getting our food we never heard from our server again. Other staff didn't acknowledge us as well. I guess once a table gets their food the people are forgotten. Well, like I mentioned, our main reason was the souvenir glass, and since nobody acknowledged us I decided to go to the bar, and ask the bartender if they only sold the souvenir glass. He said that the glass could only be purchased with a beer tap, but then I noticed this one customer (female) who only just purchased a souvenir glass. I pointed it out, and the bartender said with a smirk on his face "That is the perks of being a regular."... I felt discriminated. After that I just went up to any employee, and asked for my check/tab, paid, and left disappointed. Not only was I dissaponted with the service, I was also disappointed with the food. I ordered an patty melt sandwich, and the meat was bland, and I believe it the beef patty was boiled. Water would drip down my hands as I bit into it. Just shows that appearances can...
Read moreWe've lived in McAllen for about 10 months. We love exploring new restaurants, looking for new favs to add to our new local list. Roosevelt at 7 makes the list! It's an old pub. Indoors is dark booths and tables. Outside is a covered dining area with long picnic tables with built in benches and a few chairs to pull up. We visited in mid-March on a sunny day so not many of the outdoor fans were needed. I imagine by June or July, we will prefer to eat indoors. Speaking of eating, the food was really good! we shared a bowl of Frank Sinatra fettuccini that was full of fresh vegetables and a flavorful alfredo sauce. The garden salads were also fresh with mixed Spring green. We shared a piece of cheese cake. It clearly was not homemade but still good. We didn't try any of the craft beers on this early outing but we will next time, and the time after, and after that! Roosevelt at 7 is not a fancy place, definitely worth a visit. Oh, and previous reviews have talked about the poor wait staff; that was not our experience at all! we had two servers and they were both wonderful. Try this place! Bring out of town friends for a few beers and good food. If you are familiar with Austin at all, and like the uniqueness of it's restaurants, you'll like Roosevelt's at 7. BTW, if they would clean their outdoor fans that are blowing on patrons, I may have given...
Read moreNeat place. The selection of beers is almost unparalleled to most restaurants in the valley. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful when we were deciding what drinks to have and even suggested a drink off the menu which my friend enjoyed. I was disappointed that he seemed to disappear later in the night because we wanted our check. Another waiter was checking up on us and brought us our check instead. Ive had the patty melt and flatbread pizza which both were enjoyable. The flatbread was not filling, however, so I would stick to something with more protein. The atmosphere is laidback, mature and lively. The age range is young adult to middle aged adult at most. You won't find kids or teenagers here which I liked. The acoustics of the restaurant make it very loud which means you have to yell to the other members of your table. Overall a good experience. Even though there are some things that could be improved there are a lot of redeeming qualities. Bottom line: I will return...
