If you want next-level BBQ, you HAVE to visit the original Hutchins BBQ in McKinney! We’ve been to the Frisco location many times, but this was our first time at the OG spot—and WOW, what a difference!
🔥 The Meats 🔥
We ordered ½ lb of Turkey and ½ lb of Wet Brisket, and let me tell you, it was phenomenal. The brisket was melt-in-your-mouth tender, perfectly smoky, and packed with juicy flavor. The turkey? So moist, with just the right touch of smokiness. And the best part? Their BBQ sauce is always served warm—rich, tangy, and absolutely delicious.
Oh, and I have to mention— I used their thick, homemade bread and some mayo to make a Turkey Sandwich stacked with white onions, pickles, jalapeños, and BBQ sauce. DIVINE. 🤤🔥
🌶️ The Texas Twinkie 🌶️
If you haven’t tried Hutchins’ Texas Twinkie, you are missing out! This thing is gigantic—a jumbo jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese and chopped brisket, wrapped in crispy bacon, and glazed with their signature BBQ sauce. 🤤🔥 The combination of smoky, spicy, creamy, and sweet flavors is Devine!!
🍽️ The Sides & Fixings 🍽️
The bread here is a game-changer! It’s thick, soft, and tastes homemade—way better than the Frisco location’s version. And the fire-roasted corn? Slightly charred perfection that kicks their already amazing creamy jalapeño corn up ten notches. 🌽🔥
We also had their mashed potatoes (which have a special name I can’t quite recall) and they were incredible—smooth, buttery, and the perfect comfort food. And then there’s the fried okra… WOW. In Frisco, it’s always burnt, even when we’ve asked them to remake it. But here? Perfectly crispy, flavorful, and beyond killer.
Their fixings bar is also stacked! They have banana peppers, jalapeños, pickles, white onions, plus all the baked potato toppings you could want—sour cream, shredded cheese, butter, and bacon. 🥔🧀🥓
Another thing we noticed? The vibe here is so much better. It’s quieter, calmer, and just the right size—none of those massive, awkward tables where you end up sitting with strangers. Way more enjoyable!
🍑 The Desserts 🍌
Now for the grand finale—the Banana Pudding and Peach Cobbler. OMG. The banana pudding is heavenly, creamy, and packed with flavor. But the Peach Cobbler? It’s more like a dump cake, and let’s just say… I don’t even LIKE peach cobbler, but this one? LIFE-CHANGING. 🤯 Especially when topped with cold vanilla ice cream. 🍦
💯 The Service & Management 💯
Shoutout to Jolene, our server—she was amazing! Super sweet, full of that classic Texas charm, and made sure we had an incredible experience. She even suggested we share our compliments with Wayne, the manager, who was awesome as well.
Wayne told us he’s been telling Frisco they’ve made some beyond lightyear changes in the 3-4 months he’s managed McKinney, and it absolutely shows. I hope the Frisco location is listening, because the quality in McKinney proves why they are the original location. They keep it true to their roots while still making room for expansion and experimentation—finding ways to recreate the wheel without breaking it (kind of like making a car fly—same concept, just way, way, WAY better!).
Now Wayne? He’s a true Southern gentleman, Dallas born, bred, and raised. He’s one heck of a man, and we were honored and blessed to get to know him and his awesome staff. Just check out the pictures for yourself! If you weren’t sure—Wayne’s the one in the cowboy hat. I even asked him and his meat master carvers to pose for a few photos for this review.
🥤 The One (Tiny) Flaw 🥤
They serve Pepsi products here, and for that, we say… we forgive you. 😆 We’re definitely more Coke people, but honestly? The meat is so beyond amazing, so life-changing, that we’ll let it slide.
🏆 Final Verdict 🏆
We’ve tried a LOT of BBQ spots, but Hutchins is where it’s at—especially McKinney. The price is right (pun intended 🎯), the food is on another level, and the experience is just so much better. If you haven’t been here yet, what are you waiting for?!
🔥 5 STARS ALL THE WAY! You won’t...
Read moreTLDR; brisket and beef ribs that'll have you have you thinking about changing your zip code, and an underrated "southern hospitality" type of service. My wife and I ate here on day 2 of our week long BBQ road trip across Texas. It looked unassuming enough from the outside, but the moment we stepped in and the fellas preparing the BBQ sparked up a conversation with us that all changed. Kelvin (or maybe Calvin) in particular had sharp eyes/ears and could tell we were from our of town. After a couple minutes of him introducing us to the place and what they had to offer alongside all things local BBQ, after we mentioned the theme of our trip, we could obviously tell he was a student of the BBQ craft and gave a damn about delighting folks. We appreciated that very much. He also noted what we said we'd tried and liked before, and what we weren't too impressed by elsewhere. He gave us a taste of brisket, and it was moist enough to wet my whistle likea good aged bourbon whiskey. I knew we were in for something to remember after that. We got all the staples; brisket, pulled pork, and pork ribs with sides of green beans, creamed corn, and mac n' cheese. I was pleasantly surprised to hear they had beef ribs after I asked, so of course I had to try that as well. As it turned out that was the best decision I'd made at least all week. They say a sign of good beef ribs is the jiggle test. Well this beef ribs only needed half the distance of a full jiggle to literally fall all the way off the bone. Yeah I'll let you think about that for a second, haha. I'm telling you that if this thing was around before Christ, Eve would have left that apple on the tree. Everything else we ate was great too. The pulled pork and ribs were up there with some of the best I've had, and the sides were worth adding too. While we were eating Efrain came over and welcomed us to the place in the same way someone welcomes you to their home. It was really refreshing coming from a big city like Los Angeles where we're from. Efrain somehow knew I was as sucker for a good ol slice of peach cobbler, so he surprised my wife and I with a complimentary slice of that and banana pudding. Kelvin took the time to come over and check in on us as well to see what we thought about the food. I'd never been to Texas before this, but I have to say that if this is what it is then please never change. And if my writing is sounding a bit colorful for a simple review then believe you me it's because I just finished eating here, and I'm thinking that for the rest of my life my BBQ timeline will now always be Before Hutchin's or After Hutchin's. Some places are just restaurants and some places are cultural experiences; I can't speak for others, but that's what it was for us. Oh and when we got up to leave I noticed a few little pieces of that beef rib had fallen off on the table... you're damn straight I picked them up off the table and ate them before walking out. That's what we're talking about...

First and foremost, let's talk about the food. It's nothing short of extraordinary. Each dish is crafted with precision and passion, showcasing the rich flavors and quality ingredients that define Texas barbecue at its finest. Whether you're indulging in tender brisket that practically melts in your mouth, savory ribs with a perfect smoky char, or succulent pulled pork bursting with flavor, every bite is a testament to the culinary expertise of the chefs at Hutchins. Even the sides were amazing, I cannot name them all but I LOVED them all And the desserts, those were fun 😁 Their flavorful banana pudding and peach cobblers were awesome. I had 2 servings of both and enjoyed both cobbler plates with ice-cream, all of which were complimentary. When we spoke with Alex afterwards, one of the managers afterwards, he explained how meticulously they follow their process to keep their customers happy.
What I think sets Hutchins apart though is the service. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with genuine warmth and hospitality. One young lady worked to serve us, but we were a little confused with how things worked. Felicia, stepped in and explained everything to us. We had a party of 13 that was already there and we arrived just before the doors closed, but she ensured we got our food and joined them. She exemplified hospitality at its finest. Her attentiveness and professionalism were truly commendable, making us feel like honored guests throughout our dining experience. 💥 It's these personal touches that elevate the dining experience at Hutchins from great to exceptional.
In the end, our party left Hutchins in McKinney not only satisfied but positively ecstatic. Each member of our group raved about the food, the service, and the overall experience, agreeing that it was one of the best dining experiences they've ever had. 10 of our party were from out of town and my family of 3 had never been to Hutchins nor heard of it. Yet, we all agreed we'd like to come again. And that's the mark of a truly exceptional restaurant - when every guest leaves with a smile on their face and a desire to return as soon as possible. 💥
