We’ve been coming here for over 4 years. Always came back because despite the bartenders rude attitude the overall service and food was good and it’s a great place to take the kids. Tonight however I was extremely disappointed. Our chef did three tricks, mixed the different types of steak, fried rice could have been better. Our waitress was amazing but a bit distracted. When I walked in with half of my party I went to the bar as usual to order a drink because I know without a reservation there is always a bit of a wait. In the past the bartender has always been a bit “off”. I could never really figure out why. Tonight when I tried to order a drink while waiting she completely ignored me. There was no one else at the bar. I even went as far as leaving my purse at the bar while I spoke to the hostess and when I came back to the bar she still refused to serve me. I decided to let it go and waited to be seated. They have always added an 18% gratuity to the checks which I have never had an issue paying however when we received our bill tonight, they added 20%. My issue was at least let your customers know that the added gratuity amount has changed. So I pay my bill in cash and decide to ask management about the change in the gratuity amount. She was extremely nice about it and said she would change it to the 18% because our family dines there often. I thanked her and as I was about to pay it the bartender walks up and says rudely “what do you expect to tip?” I answered her by saying it’s ok we have figured it out. She decided to ask the same question. So I said “ma’am when I walked in and tried to order a drink from you, you refused to a knowledge me at all so why are you concerned now? This lady then tells me she didn’t have to serve me and that it wasn’t her job to be nice…..wait what ok now firstly I was a bartender for years so yea that is one of your job descriptions. To put a smile on your face and ask “what can I get you and then make silly small talk. Anyways I decided to revert my attention back to the manager/owner who at that point was seeming really embarrassed. The bar tender then says I didn’t serve you because you probably weren’t going to tip. I couldn’t believe it. I’m in the service industry and I completely understand the struggles in most service industries since COVID. At this point I had two options. Tip them the $64 gratuity charge or walk out. I decided to tell the bartender “since you know me so well I’m going to do exactly that! You can tip them!” I also told the manager your Cheff and waitress just lost their tip because of your bartender. Under no circumstances is racism allowed in the service industry and I will not in any way shape or form support a business that allows that type of behavior from any of their employees. It’s unfortunate that one bad Apple will spoil the bunch. People of color could not support this place until that bartender is gone. Shame on you lady for behaving that way! I have referred so many to this place but...
Read moreUpdate...after going to this particular shoguns for 15 years, we've sadly decided it is no longer a place for us as you will see in my review and my past review below. Tonight our experience was extremely subpar, boring, and I might even say somewhat worrisome. Our chef did not have an entertainment bone in his body. The fried rice was overly salted. After chef had all of the fish nearly cooked, he slapped the steaks out then plopped the raw chicken into the grill sliding over the cooked shrimp, salmon, and left it butted up against the steak, then with the same utensil he just finished using on the raw chicken, he decided to finish flipping and tossing the shrimp with the teriyaki sauce and serving it. Then he went back to the raw chicken and then went over to the vegetables back and forth between the raw chicken and other food that he was readying to serve onto our plates. I think more rice landed in the gutter and on us as he was slapping it all over the place making a huge mess... Not in a theatrical or entertainment way either. He kept pulling the shrimp that landed in the trash gutter out and serving it onto guests plates. My salmon teriyaki did not get the teriyaki. All he did was salt, pepper and slather a huge chunk of butter on it and then put it on my plate. He kept re-wiping the cooking surface off with his rag because the heat on the grill was turned up so high. It kept burning everything to the surface of the grill. The fried rice didn't taste as good as it used to ... Did the recipe change? It seems like a couple ingredients that they used to add to it want added the last few times we've been.... And we haven't liked it.... It used to be the main reason we'd go eat there! Last, My husband ordered the jalapeno shrimp and the chef dumped the jalapenos on the shrimp at the last moment and then tossed them and then served them up without giving the jalapenos anytime to be grilled whatsoever.
Needless to say, this was our last attempt at hoping things were just a one off situation, but we've given multiple chances, and sadly, this places isn't the same...maybe find some good chefs and update me.
Great food....our favorite Hibachi grill. This last visit however makes me wonder if there's been a change in quality/recipes? My salmon filet was a weird cut and tasted very fishy and the rice was different... Not as addictingly tasty. (This 4 star rating does not reflect tonight's findings, that is my review from the beginning.... I'm not sure if it's a one off situation or something to expect hence forth... I will update the review again once we've gone a couple...
Read moreAfter fifteen years I was disappointed for the first time ever as was the couple who sat with us at the table. Every portion of the food was poor, the rice was burnt and the shrimp I was unable to eat. But what was more disappointing was the restaurant placing the value of the dollar today over a visit from me tomorrow. The manager saw how poorly the food was prepared that he brought us out two cups of rice. One for my family and the other for the other family. Noticeably different. When the chef walked to the next table he told us he was new and that he saw the challenges. The waitress who has waited on for 15-18 years was unaffected by our “I’m sorry this was not edible”, she said. “I took off thirty dollars here you go are you ready to pay. My bill after thirty dollars off was still 140. My wife insisted we pack the shrimp to give it to someone who may be hungry even though we couldn’t eat three orders of shrimp. The vegetables were bad and again we got one cup of cooked rice as compensation for three orders of burned rice. The cook was already at the next table preparing to fall short on their standards, which sadly tells me a lot. The entire experience in how they knew and how the handled it was surpringsly disappointed. As mentioned the manager acknowledged that we all are clients of years, yet we were all treated like we wanted something free. SMH. I am glad you got your 140, plus 15% tip. I normally tip 30% because this unfortunately will be my last...
