Tacos El Gordo — Restaurant in McKinney

Heard about this place and took my wife to try it out! Read the reviews beforehand and was aware of the smaller size, especially when compared to the type of tacos I grew up with in the Corpus Christi area! Decided to order 10 (3 barbacoa, 3 carnitas, and 4 trompo taquitos on corn. I’ll refer to them as taquitos, because they are similar to tapas or appetizers! Ordered at the counter with a Mexican Coke bottle and took a seat and admire the black and white photos while sneaking a peak at a Spanish infomercial for some type of miracle elixir that was equivalent to the fountain of youth!

Our 10 taquitos arrived with the usual garnish and 2 types of sauces! The beef cheek barbacoa on corn tortillas were garnished with cilantro, onion, a sprinkle of salt, spritz of lime, and a dab of red sauce! First bite was a succulent and fatty infused flavor that instantly made me realize that I would need to order more to get our fill! We ordered 2 more and 4 more of the marinated pork (trompo)!

It took 16 taquitos total to fill up! The carnitas were a bit dryer than what I’m used to, but the Trompo flavor profile is very good! I do agree with most comments that a bit more meat to tortilla ratio is needed to make these the better!

The hot sauces are ok and overall it’s a recommended casual stop if you’re in the mood for an appetizer or sweet...

First of all I have to say that the place is clean. We decided to eat in, and they have wooden tables, I expected that they would be dirty or sticky, but that's not the case this place was spotless!

I ordered Trompo, Lengua , and Barbacoa tacos, I also had a Lengua burrito. My wife had Lengua tacos, and a carnitas Torta. Everything was really really good, I just found my new taco place! The Trompo was very flavorful I just wish they you gave more meat in the tacos. The other tacos were also very good but I have to say the LENGUA is the star of the show ,it was very tender, rich with lots of beef flavor. We also decided to try a churros stuffed with caramel, it was a little different but churros are always good, throw in some caramel and it's a winner! from the outside it's a normal looking mini mall style location windows covered with blinds, as you walk in 1 word comes to mind clean. order at the front and friendly faces great you. i sat in a very uncomfortable bench probably hand made, first up the taco de barbacoa, surprisingly good comes with grilled onions raw onions and cilantro love the traditional style myself tortillas need some attention but I'm not mad at lengua up next besides not having alot of meat its very tasty. I understand the cost of everything is higher but keep the portion healthy real eaters will pay flavor is good. now torta is awesome flavor of bread is great and they chose mayo I didn't know how ifelt about it but im enjoying it. 5 stars for service bathrooms clean good food portion would be my only down fall but no need to...
