⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Dragon Express Chinese Restaurant has quickly become my go-to spot for both lunch and dinner in Medford. Whether dining in or picking up, I’ve consistently had an excellent experience.
The environment is impeccable—always clean and welcoming. The newly renovated space boasts new tables and a spacious layout, ensuring that even when it’s busy, it never feels too loud. Conversations are easily held without having to raise your voice, which is a rare and appreciated quality.
The staff at Dragon Express are friendly and engaging, fluent in both English and Mandarin. They’re quick to serve and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, making recommendations that have never disappointed. The food arrives promptly, and the flavors are simply delightful. An added bonus is the two robot servers that help bring food to the table, which is a fun and efficient touch.
While the dishes are often seasoned for more American palates, the staff is more than willing to adjust the spice level to suit your preference. One standout is the Dim Sum—every dish I’ve tried has been delicious. The bao are perfectly fluffy with fillings like barbeque pork and red bean paste that are just right. The sesame balls are a particular favorite, served hot and crisp every time.
Mapo Tofu is another highlight. It’s authentically prepared with Szechuan peppercorns that deliver that signature tingle, making it a must-try for anyone who loves genuine Szechuan cuisine.
I've also sampled several other items, including some that aren't yet on the regular menu but are being considered. Every dish, without exception, has been a culinary delight. The variety and quality of the food at Dragon Express truly set it apart from other local options.
Pricing is very reasonable, especially considering the portion sizes and the quality of the food. It’s a great value that encourages me to return often.
Parking is a breeze with ample spaces available, and there’s no need for reservations, making it easy to drop by anytime.
In conclusion, Dragon Express is transforming the local Chinese food scene, offering authentic and flavorful dishes that stand out in a sea of overly Americanized fare. It’s easily one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area, and I’ll definitely keep coming back for my...
Read moreWhere can I begin with Dragon Express? This restaurant hits different. They have an open kitchen with chefs from China with decades of restaurant experience and an array of authentic dishes made just the way you would have them in China! Everything is good on their extensive menu, from the american style Mar Far Chicken dishes to the authentic Shuizhu Nuirou. The oil they cook in is very high quality and expensive, and everything tastes very fresh and delicious, and they give you a lot of food! Most of the lunch specials are $10-15 dollars but could feed three of me! The service is snappy and the staff genuinely cares about your experience. They will fetch you anything you need and help to solve problems with a smile! The owners will also come up and talk to you if you’re open to it, ask you if you like the food, what you liked about it, they will tell you about their story and how they came here and opened the restaurant and it was super hard at first with the language barrier and now they have come so far and operate a really nice place. It’s honestly touching how the restaurant came to be and how much they care. I think they have what a lot of places don’t, a lot of heart and a dream they have worked hard to make come true. The restaurant itself is kept exceptionally clean, the standards for cleanliness in China are sky high and they’re bringing that with them. Cleanliness is comfort and it’s something a lot of places lack. Sometimes you go into a restaurant and want to turn right back around, just from the smell in the air. So go on and give Dragon Express a whirl. If you’re used to being disappointed by asian food in our area, this is what you’ve been looking for. They go above and beyond in every way, and that’s not only my personal opinion, but I’ve heard many people rave about it! Here’s some cute pics we took while...
Read moreGreat place that's finding it's footing!! Annie, Ken, and Annie or Ken's mother run a wonderful family place! Their new chef from Chengdu really makes authentic food!
We went yesterday and got a couple items that aren't on the official menu yet. Shuizu Fish - a Fish Sichuan Fish Stew that's spicy, rich, and full of flavor from the spices. The fist was tender and melted in my mouth like fish "butter". It was that tender. The rich spices and savory broth with fermented bean paste had a great umami and depth. The mala and other spices were very well balanced. Mao Cai - A spice laden "Everything" stew type experience from Sichuan, it has meat, shrimp, and a myriad of vegetables like wood ear, yuba, and cauliflower. Until getting this item here, we'd have to travel to Eugene or Portland for this Sichuan flavor profile! We were very happy!
We also got several new items on their menu. Sichuan Spicy Pork Ribs covered in fried fermented black (soy)bean, garlic, scallions, and shallots. The ribs themselves are rubbed with cumin, mala (sichuan peppercorns), and ground chilis. Aromatic and delicious! Their new Mapo Tofu is WAY better than the one they had a few months ago. Such great flavor from the doubanjiang, mala, and the tofu was pre-boiled perfectly to absorb all the flavors from the sauce! Just spicy savory custard, perfect to drench your rice with.
We also got their char siu (bbq pork) baos and their dou sa (red bean paste) baos. Both were delicious! I've always been partial to a good dou sa!
Quick note: We tend to order everything inferno level spicy as I eat raw habaneros and spicy food challenge items for enjoyment. What we ordered wasn't spicy for us, but Annie mentioned they have to tone down the spice for the majority...
