This has by far probably been the best breakfast I've ever had in Florida this says a lot coming from a kid who grew up in Hialeah Florida eating a lot of Cuban cuisine breakfast. I went on a breakfast date with my wife here we just recently moved into the area we've kind of been looking for our own little breakfast spot but we have a necessarily found anything good. The man let me just tell you this place completely blew us out of the backwater we came here during a busy morning but the staff was incredibly nice at the door and gave us the option to go ahead and sit on the bar. So we did It was really awesome watching how the guys working in the kitchen were doing an incredible job pumping the orders out at a really fast pace the vibe of the restaurant is so laid back and welcoming. I love the fact that there's so many deep ties to Florida with this restaurant which is something that I truly appreciate being a Florida native they use so many incredible local flavors with their dishes. For the price point and the food that you get here It's worth it and you'll be left with a hard time breathing because if how good the food is. We got potato skins that were absolutely the most incredible potato skins I've ever had in my life I've never had grits like the ones I had here. I've had grits from North Carolina from my time living there and the ones that they serve here don't even come close to anything I've ever had before their pancakes have a little bit of a taste of fresh Florida peeled oranges and it's absolutely incredible. The eggs the bacon the biscuits I mean this place is the absolute definition of what come for food really is they even show you a map of where they get their local flavors from. It's safe to say that my wife and I found our spot we enjoyed every minute we were there and the experience backwater gave us! This...
Read moreBlackwater's is a nice place with a different slant to breakfast. They have tables with griddles in the center to allow you to fry your own pancakes. For a very reasonable $7, you get a 12 oz squeeze container with batter, which will make three 12 in plate sized pancakes. There are 4 different varieties to choose from: buttermilk, vegan, gluten free, and seasonal, which today was apple cinnamon. You can get other toppings and add-ins, like blueberries or chocolate chips for an additional price. There is also a full breakfast menu with the Backwater spin, like waffles and fried gator bites or chicken, and a lunch menu. The only downfall to the restaurant seemed to be their pricing of the add-ons for pancakes. Look at the menu and you see a side of bacon, sausage, or two eggs are $6 each. Home fries are $3.50 and toast $2. You get 2 slices of bacon for that $6. Yes, it's thick sliced and tasty, but a pound of thick sliced bacon gets you 10 pieces at a minimum, in some packs 12 to 14. That puts the bacon, somewhere in the $25 range a pound. I doubt the restaurant's paying that much for it. Then to boot, if you order the Southern Breakfast, you get your two eggs, bacon or sausage, home fries, and toast all for $13. That's a savings of $3 from a la carte. It's prices like this, that make us leary about going out to eat these days. Although, $13 is the typical price this morning for breakfast, I think if everybody took a hard look at how much it costs for their supplies that they buy in bulk, they could shave a couple dollars off the price, and they'd bring a few more customers in. Because words gets out that it's worthwhile venture. This would give them the funds to meet all their overhead requirements. So, shop wisely. Otherwise the experience and especially the wait staff...
Read moreAfter much consideration, I feel compelled to share my experience with the sandwich I recently purchased. The price tag of $17.95 left me with high expectations - I expected nothing short of a remarkable sandwich. The Monte Cristo I received was composed of a top layer of turkey, cheese, and a second layer of ham. The sandwich was then dipped in a batter and deep-fried, typically served with raspberry jam or pancake syrup. The anticipation for this meal was high, as I had heard numerous positive reviews and my wife was keen to try it out. She enjoyed her meal, but did not find it exceptional enough to purchase again.
However, I must address the matter of my sandwich. I invite you to take a closer look at the attached photo. Upon inspection, you will find a minimal amount of turkey and ham, with some slices lacking turkey altogether. The cheese was scarcely present and difficult to locate. Had this sandwich been priced in the range of $6 to $10, I may have overlooked this issue. But for a $17.95 sandwich, such lack of quality is unacceptable.
I would like to compare this establishment to one similar to First Watch. Although First Watch may have a higher price point, they deliver a quality meal that is worth the cost. In contrast, the Monte Cristo sandwich I received was far from a quality meal. The batter was subpar, the bread choice was poor, and the cheese and meats were horrendous. The sandwich only looked good, and upon closer inspection, that too was not impressive. I provide this review with hopes that the establishment will take necessary measures to improve the quality of their meals and honor the high...
