Didn't have to be bad, but it was. We came here on the recommendation of a Chinese friend. My wife is Chinese and I speak a little. Second time in as many weeks treated badly by the Chinese folks in Memphis. The waitress was rude in all her languages. Gave us nasty tea in a dirty teapot. Lukewarm is a kindness, it was cold. There was food spray on the wall in our booth. She took our order then the Chinese students who came in behind us. Then about ten minutes later the two older Anglo couples sitting next to us. We counted. Ten dishes were served to people who came in after us. One of our three dishes, a lame fish dish that should have been subtle, showed up thirty minutes later. My wife spoke to the owner who promised a Hong Kong style lobster right out of the tank. I've eaten Hong Kong style lobster many times. A whole in the shell lobster cut artfully and stir fried in garlic, scallions, and ginger. You pull chunks of meat out of the shell that protected it while cooking. The second dish showed up. Barbeque pork with crispy noodles and vegetables. Clearly it sat until it got cold then they put it under the broiler to heat it. Made with boiled pork shank not barbecue. There were three baby bok choy cut in half and cooked until all vitality was gone. Terrible. Then our lobster arrived. A whole lobster chopped in the shell then dipped in batter and deep fried. Yeah just like it sounds. Like something you get from Captain D's except less enjoyable. All in all I'd say our seventy bucks was a complete, rude, unhappy, waste. If they didn't know how to make the dishes tell us it's not available. They faked it and we will never go back. Clearly they don't want us...
Read moreI've lived in Memphis for 7 years and I've never been impressed with the Chinese food here. Good Chinese is so hard to find. I found this place by doing a quick Google search and saw it had a high review score. I read the reviews and everyone loved it. I thought we would give it a try.
When we arrived, I was not impressed. When you walk in, it has the dirty rag smell and old worn out decor. We were met by an older Chinese lady that barely spoke English. She showed us to our table, took our drink order and handed us a menu. The menu was pretty much the same as every other Chinese restaurant in America. We ordered our drinks and ordered an appetizer, the pan fried dumplings. They took a note while to cook and they were very fresh and delicious. They were some of the best I've ever had. I ordered the cashew chicken. The portions are very liberal, the food is hot, fresh and delicious. Most Chinese places cook all the food at once and reheat it as it's ordered. This food was made to order and fresh. The vegetables were incredibly fresh and delicious. This is hands down the best Chinese place in Memphis. A diamond in the rough. It doesn't standout at all, and they could definitely use some marketing help, but the food was on point. A definite...
Read moreThis place was so great! We stumbled across it by accident while we were trying to kill some time. First of all, BOTH my husband and I ate here (with leftovers) for a grand total of $21. We went at the tail end of their lunch service, and it wasnt crowded or loud at all. The staff was quick, efficient, and they didn't hover.
We both got the lunch special and chose egg drop soup. It's officially the best I've had since moving to Memphis: light and flavorful, without being drowned in oil and salt like most Chinese places here. The entrees were above average as well. Cashew chicken had plenty of veggies that were cooked crisp (not at all flaccid like you get most places) and the chicken itself was moist and flavorful. My husband had the General Tso's Chicken, which was equally delicious, but just a little less spicy than we were used to. The fried rice here is addictive, light and fluffy, with minimal onions (just the way I like it!) and my husband was even impressed with the iced tea 😂 I tasted it and I'm pretty sure it was jade, which complimented everything really well!
Best Chinese cuisine we've had in the Memphis area, and we will be coming back...
