Besides the fact that every shopping center has some kind of Mexican food, and that therefore competition is fierce, as not all of these places are good enough to praise, or even stop by, it is always an interesting time when one hears of a relatively new place in town. Boasting to be purveyors of "Authentic Mexican Food" clearly stated at their door, what else could a family of 4 do, but go ahead and try the place? We arrived at Don Mere's restaurant/fast food at around 7 PM. Place was big, not too busy in terms of patrons inside. Ismael, took our initial order: Chicken Wings, $7.95: smothered with a sauce red chili, lime, garlic, and Mexican spices. A definite wet selection, which brought 10 small pieces. Tasted fine, but not crispy as mentioned, and not for those who liked their wings a little on the milder taste. 3.5 Stars. Street Tacos Platter, $12.50: an assortment of 10 tacos, with meats of choice. A definite hunger terminator, with a nice amount in each variety ordered. Carnitas, Pastor, Chicken, etc. Corn tortillas steamed, sauces available at the salsa bar tasted good enough. 4 Stars. Carne Asada Burrito, $7.50?: according to an energetic member of our group, the burrito was good. The Carne Asada in good amount, and just like in the Tacos nice and tasty, and of course the typical ingredients that included: rice, beans, guacamole, pico de gallo salsa, well, mist of us know the drill. 4 Stars. Cheese Enchiladas, $2.25: the lovely lady that ordered this plate was very happy with it. Corn tortillas with cheese, and choice of green or red sauce, green being spicier. 4.5 Stars. Ceviche Tostada, $4.75: decent, refreshing, which both orders were eaten to its completion. 4 Stars. Churros, $3.75: 2 Churros that came warm and drizzled with dulce de leche and raspberry sauce, but also with a nice serving of vanilla ice cream. Overall decent enough. 4 Stars. Flan, $4.75: a mite pricy perhaps, but one of the better ones, and God knows we have tried various. This one climbed right to the top, where the good ones should be. 4.5 Stars. Home made chips very nice and warm, coffee strong and positively endorsed by the 2 in our group that apparently can not live without it ($1.75), sodas carbonated and self serve ($2.25 a glass). Service good at the hands of the personable Ismael, who as it turned out works alongside other family members: Toribio, José and Miguel, and who knows who else was hiding in the back. Total around $60 plus with 0 regrets. Nice people and...
Read moreGal today needs some training — she excels in product knowledge, but lacked in common sense.
There were 3 people in line. One needed to get back to work at Supercuts
Couple others waiting - she’s on a 15 minute phone call taking an order on the phone- 10 minutes was discussing salsa and how it’s not sold by the pound but 32 oz max sizes but can buy multiple orders
Then instead continues to take orders with churros and other stuff... same call over the phone going over menu and pricing. 15 dang minutes people start walking out.
I watched 2 of the 3 in line LEAVE. Turn around and left because they flat out said “she’s on the phone instead of with us let’s GO” and left.
Common sense—- every order is money including the person on the phone, but always deal with your IN Person clients First. They are front line - make the person on the phone with GrubHub wait. If it’s for the program that’s for delivering food it’s not worth it to upset people waiting to order standing in front being ignored while discussing salsa options and churro options.
Use something on a phone called the Hold Button. Clients willing to get in their car to you are worth more than someone still in their chonies on the phone no matter the size of their salsa order. Have the person in their chonies on the phone be put on hold. Get back to them after...
