A couple of things to note before you go:
If you're sitting outside or inside, they give you a table number marker. This does not mean they bring the food to you, and they do not call out numbers, so you need to have someone pay attention to the food coming out.
It's previously a subway and so it looks like you order subway style, and the menu even kinda reflects that, but it's not, it's just combo numbers with extra steps, you order either a single or a double and a style.
Anyway, I wanted to try this as it's a new addition to downtown Mesa. I came around 1:30, and it wasn't very busy, I chose a Sonora Style Single combo, which came out to just over 14 dollars after tax and came with a drink and fries. The drinks aren't anything special, just run of the mil Coca-Cola products, but they do have Jarritos.
The fries were great, one of the better fries I've had, not as salted as I like, but more salted than many I've gone to. But this style is begging for a good fry sauce, which, as fat as I could tell, they did not have. Just ketchup, spicy ketchup, mayo, and mustard. I did my standard hack of Ketchup + mayo + pepper to make my own fry sauce at my table, which worked well, but they need a good fry sauce.
The burger was fantastic. Spicy but not too spicy, crispy, and everything paired well together. They claim it was on a Brioche bun, but I'm not certain about that. It seemed to be a standard hamburger bun, which, overall, I think works better for what they made.
Overall, the food is great, but the service is non-existent. Do not hand out table flags if you're not doing table service and call out numbers, make it clear where you order, and don't be so aloof. Great product with poor...
Read moreFirst time visitor and I really wanted to like it because we don't have many burger options in downtown Mesa. I got a Classic Double Combo for reference. I enjoyed the sandwich and it was very satisfying. Most people would agree it's good. The fries were fine. I got a Coke Zero from the fountain, and that is when I noticed they have glass bottled drinks as well. My wife got a classic single combo and did not enjoy it, but I think she was looking for reasons not to like the place, more on that in a minute. The service was fine, we didn't have to wait too long to get our food, but they don't bring it to your table or anything, they just call your number and you pick it up at the counter. Our table was clean, and the place felt fresh and new. That's all fine. The music is what really turned my wife off from this place. If you don't mind unedited rap music then it's fine, but the profane lyrics hurt her sensitive ears. We weren't expecting to hear music like from Happy Days or anything like that, but heavy beats with N words and F words weren't what we were expecting either. I didn't mind it as much on account of how I was raised, but for a lunch crowd, it seemed too heavy. I might consider getting delivery next time, but it's a saucy burger that would probably arrive on a soggy bun. I think eating it hot and fresh right away is the best it will be, and then it will get soggy pretty quickly. My last few bites had a pretty soggy bottom bun. It was about $35 for the both of us to eat, which seemed a little high for...
Read moreI was really excited to try Main Burgers because I love burgers and always make an effort to check out new burger joints in Arizona. What initially caught my attention was the branding, the logo, the colors, and the overall aesthetic. As a graphic designer, I appreciate great branding, and this place visually stood out.
Unfortunately, the experience didn’t match the expectations. My wife and I ordered two double meat combos, totaling over $40. The reason I opted for double meat was that, while waiting in line, I saw the burgers being prepared, and they looked fairly small. Despite that, they still didn’t feel satisfying. My wife is tiny, and even for her, the portion didn’t seem to justify the price.
I wouldn’t mind the price if the quality was great, but unfortunately, it wasn’t. I ordered the Sonora Burger, and it was overwhelmingly salty. The sauce completely overpowered the other ingredients, drowning out the taste of the meat and vegetables. Instead of complementing the burger, the sauce took over the entire experience, making it unappetizing. My wife had the same issue with her burger, it was just way too saucy.
It’s disappointing to leave a negative review, but I do believe Main Burgers has room for improvement. I hope they reconsider the balance of their flavors and maybe focus on using higher-quality ingredients. The place has a lot of potential, but unfortunately, the food didn’t live up...
