I want to start this review off by saying first and foremost I love this restaurant, and did not want to write this I eat here at least 2-3 times per month and the food is great however tonights service on the part of the manager tiffany is just inexcusably bad I had a res set for 730 The tables were busy which isn't uncommon and in a situations like this I usually choose to let the hostess know that I will be sitting at the bar as I wait for an available table to clear out until my party is able to be seated and they usually come and get me at the bar and alert me that my table is ready At 7:55 we were given a call and txt that the table was ready i admit my phones ringer was not loud enough to hear and i missed the call At 8 i go to the hostess stand unaware of the call to check the status of our table I was alerted to the call and was told that they came to the bar and called my name however me nor my party members heard anything heard anyone come forth and call any thing When i spoke to the manager her pronunciation of my name was so atrocious it sounded like Silvia and not xavier so how is that supposed to catch my attention Typically in my experience after i alert the hostess that I'm sitting at the bar they typically come and get you to bring you to your table and like i said they were very busy so i can understand they had theyâre hands full but from the hostess booth if you turn around you could have seen me sitting there and told me my table was ready as they usually do. So at this point im a bit irritated and ask to speak to the manager. The hostess replies âyour just going to have to wait ill go get them but they are going to tell you the same thingâ. i Didnât ask for the hostessâs opinion just do your job. So the manager appears. I try to explain my position i know we missed the call however like i said they usually come to the bar and find the people to be seated and as that has been my experience on many occasions, and that was what i was expecting Iâm voicing my opinion to the manager not to hope that a table magically appears as i know that is impossible but maybe to inspire some sympathy and customer accommodation. It could have been some thing as simple as im sorry you missed your table we can offer you a free âanythingâ while you wait for our next available table, but no tiffany chose ignorance instead and before i could even finish explaining my situation she cut me off and said âcan i talk now theres no tables open you just have to waitâ with a little snarky attitude to boot. If you donât like working in the service industry then donât do it tiffany. I stop talking and move from the bar to the waiting area 815pm we have been given the next available table We are seated with a group of five that have gathered for a gentlemans birthday To our left is a young lady who is vegan She kindly asks our server for vegan accommodations At first my thoughts are why are you ordering vegan food at a hibachi place Maybe 30m later they bring her out a plate of fried veggies and rice from the kitchen At this point she interjects and states that shes been there multiple times and every time she has been able to get her rice toasted with soy sauce on the grill and her veggies on the grill, our amazing server takes her plate then goes to get the manager to see if shes able to once again accommodate a patron of the establishment What does Tiffany choose to do, she flexes her manager muscles yet again and says we dont do that here how hard is it to take that little bowl of rice you gave her toast it with some soy sauce so this young ladyâs dietary restrictions could be met and she doesnt feel ostracized from a hibachi experience It was at this point that i chose to write the review realizing that although i missed my call my intuition was correct that Tiffany is a rude inconsiderate manager our table starts talking and i find out their party also had a res for 730pm mind you were were not seated until 815pm without your clients you don't have a business and they need to be taken care of to the best of...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I go to Osaka in Gilbert a couple times a month, and they are FABULOUS about my shellfish allergy. Iâve never had any problems at that restaurant.
On Thursday, we decided to go to the Osaka in Mesa for a change, since weâd never gone to that one before. I made note in our reservation that I had a shellfish allergy, and no one at the host stand acknowledged it until I asked them that it was noted. Then I told the guy who took our order as well and at first he thought I said âextra shrimpâ and I said no I have a shellfish allergy, and he still didnât understand what I meant until my boyfriend explained it to him. That alone was embarrassing as everyone at our area was staring at me. The guy who cooked our food confirmed that I had an allergy, and I thought that wouldâve been good. Then he gets out the steaks, and ALL the SHELLFISH to cook. I kept trying to get his attention but he was too busy cooking that he didnât hear/see me trying to get his attention. After about 5 minutes he realized on his own and quickly took all the shellfish off the grill and scrubbed down the area and spatula.
Then he goes to give me my steak and it was medium rare after I asked for it well done, and he showed me where the waiter put it down as medium rare instead of well done!! Like, really? Luckily the cook put it back on to finish cooking it for me, but again I felt embarrassed because everyone else had to wait for their food because I canât have any shellfish touch my food, and everyone was staring at me off and on because of it.
Even after that, I was highly nervous to eat any of my steak and chicken because of the fact that there had been shellfish on there the same time as my steak and chicken.
After that experience, I donât think we will ever be back to the Mesa location. Never once have I had an experience like that at the Gilbert location!! But it was such a waste of money considering I couldnât even eat my meal besides the rice!!
Osaka Mesa, PLEASE teach your waiters and chefs about the severity of food allergies. Itâs a good thing that I didnât have an allergic reaction there at the restaurant. That was a total waste of money on our part, and a bad...
Read moreThis was a fun spot to celebrate a birthday with the family! This spot seems like it is a hot spot for birthday & similar celebrations. They have an assortment of regular menu items to order such as appetizers and sushi, or you can order teppanyaki and have it made on the grill right in front of you. Every teppanyaki plate comes with rice, some veggies, two shrimp plus your choice of meats along with a small salad and soup. I am not a huge fan of the dressing they use, so I didn't eat the salad but the soup was good despite being just a broth with two small mushrooms floating in it.
My teppanyaki dish was delicious, the meat was cooked just right and I enjoy the sauce they serve with it. I do wish that the veggies had been cooked slightly more and they could use slightly bigger portions for the meats with how much each dish is. While I do understand that part of the cost of the meal is the entertainment from watching the chef cook, a bigger protein portion I think would help balance out the cost. Especially since most parties will typically type the chef as well before he leaves the table.
Our table also had some of their sushi, spicy edamame and dumpling. All three dishes were enjoyable and I didn't have any issue with them. A family member of ours treated us to a dinner here for my husbands birthday & had mentioned to the staff that it was his birthday. At the end of our meal they brought over some small cakes, a big candle & a fun mask for my husband to wear while they played some loud drums and a happy birthday song. You'll frequently hear this through out your dinner as almost every table there had someone celebrating either a birthday or another event. The chef who did our teppanyaki had also made my husband a balloon headband to wear because it was his birthday & the chef liked his hair style.
This spot is a little pricey per person for a meal, but to visit for a celebration or a once in a while thing I think it is worth it for the experience! Make sure to call ahead and make a reservation, depending on the time and day you visit it...
