ep 6. I love a good vegan place 😋 the nile is the cutest spot in downtown mesa! The pnw in me needs to always find the cutest coffee shops and this one is one of my favorites I’ve found so far :) #arizona #phoenix #thingstodo #mesa #coffee

Since I have been in Arizona and even when I was in Alabama, a game that I like to play is to go out for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Once I had what I considered to be the best of the best, it became a game to eventually to find a better avocado toast than The Bakehouse Downtown... it's just the best I have ever had. From the everything bagel seasoning, the cherry tomatoes, and the star of the show... the balsamic drizzle, nobody has been able to beat it yet. I've had some that have come close and some honorable mentions, some that just did not try, and then today at the Nile Coffee Shop in Mesa, Arizona I was confronted with the avocado bagel. The bagel is not toast, so I will have to put this in its own category. So the Bakehouse still wins. It's just that in another category the Nile wins. My only complaint is that at the Bakehouse downtown, I can at least get an egg on top which is another thing that truly sets them apart. The Nile Coffee Shop is so vegan they don't even have knives. I don't know how they cut their vegetables and bagels behind the counter, but in order to eat an avocado bagel or toast, I like to cut it into bite size pieces... not just manhandle it and shove it into my face. One other nitpicky thing is that they are so completely vegan that they only have nut milks, which as most of you know are absolutely horrible for the environment which you think they would be wanting to save. Oh the irony. All that said, if you're ever in Fort Payne, AL, stop in and say hi to @Crestah Taylor, she really has created something in Fort Payne worth celebrating. Also, do yourself a favor and stop in at @thenileshop #shoplocal

This place is very cute, from the outside especially so if you’re looking for an Instagrammable spot, this place fits the bill. However, none of the other boxes were checked by this coffee shop and I’m so sad because it’s the closest place to my house so I’ll likely give it a few more tries. In terms of being a good hang out spot, I wasn’t a fan. The music was almost low-key club music. Not what you want on a Sunday morning sipping coffee and reading a book. It was also very echo-y as it’s a tall concrete building so there’s no such thing as a private conversation inside. The spot did have a few unique things I loved like an outdoor ordering window, some lounging spots outside to people watch and a whole theater with shows! So cool and I definitely want to come check out one of the shows. Oh and one thing that actually ended up with me getting up and leaving was the fact an employee came to water the plant on my table (totally cool, also love all the plants inside) but the pot wasn’t set up for indoor use and started “peeing” all over my table 🤣 If management sees this, please get new pots with better water management! I thought it was hilarious but still didn’t want to sit at a wet table and get my clothes wet.

Hi! Just wanted to give you some feedback from my morning experience at your store. Unfortunately it wasn’t the best. I don’t write notes like this, but today I really felt like our service was poor. I brought an out of state friend to the Nile this morning to meet for coffee, and maybe that’s why I feel disappointed and embarrassed. We each ordered coffee and avocado toast. We ordered it to dine in and waited outside by the order window. I told the gal we’d just sit outside to dine. They called our name for our coffees, but never for our avocado toast. We waited for a long time, so I finally went to the window and just asked if it was still coming, and she found them in to go boxes sitting on the counter. I asked how long they were sitting there, I didn’t want to eat cold toast. She said not too long and gave them to me. I asked why my name wasn’t called, she said she didn’t know. So I took our boxes to the little outside table, opened it and discovered they were cold. No plastic ware or napkins either. So I went inside and asked for a fork and napkins. They told me I could find it on a counter A little ways into the restaurant. I felt frustrated that this morning coffee date with my friend wasn’t turning out very pleasant. I totally felt like my order wasn’t important. So I mentioned to the employee that I was disappointed that our breakfast was cold, it was in a to go box, we weren’t alerted it was ready, and that even once I was given it, I didn’t have a fork to eat it with. She just looked at me without a word. I felt like an apology or perhaps a free coffee or something would have made it better, although I certainly didn’t ask for one. Another employee came over, and I told her I was disappointed in our experience, and she just looked at me too.

So long story short, I’m just disappointed. I love your shop, wanted to share it with my friend, and it didn’t turn out that great. Also adding to my disappointment was that I sent this review to you privately via IG message, and you didn’t respond. So I feel like I need to post it here.

Sorry to not have positive things to say, but I thought You’d want to have...

I loooove this place, the food the drinks the coffee everything. I rarely eat vegan food but this place is a frequent stop of mine, don't knock it till you try it am I right? Plenty of options on the menu, a ton of drink options from Italian soda to great coffee and even some alcohol drinks. Decor is my favorite, unlike a lot of similar menu places that are bright and have a ton of white walls this place has some more darker tones, a ton of seating options and some space to just take out the laptop and do some work.

My only complaint is a simple but important one. Consistent food preparation, I'll use my favorite sandwich as a example the squawker Texas Ranger. Vegan buffalo chicken, mixed greens and ranch. Sometimes it's perfect, the balance of Buffalo sauce to chicken, the ranch on the side. Then other times when I order the exact same sandwich barely any ranch, not much buffalo sauce, the "chicken" is in a bunch of large pieces that make it hard to eat.

I've had a few other menu items with similar results. Great food but it's just inconsistent prep, I still enjoy it here and won't stop coming in I just don't want to be that "guy" that has to ask for extra sauce because it's lacking this time but not...
