I just moved from North Dallas to Mesquite and rely on my son to find restaurants I might like. I hadn't had Mexican in a while - real, authentic Mexican cooking, so he took me to this place. It's so convenient, at the corner of Military parkway and 635 on the right side of the south-bound road. Lots of handicapped parking right in front. So happy to see that, since most places don't try to make it easy to get to the door if you are using a walker. The place is so clean and colorful - even outside, they have planter boxes with beautiful flowers to greet you as you arrive. We were greeted cheerfully when we walked in. We asked if we order at the counter and she replied that we would be waited on, so we sat at a booth. They have a nice menu and I loved seeing my fave - huevos a la Mexicana. It arrived on a large plate with rice, beans and several corn tortillas wrapped in foil. They offer you a choice of corn or flour tortillas. My son chose 3 tacos of barbacoa. He loved that they weren't 'dripping in grease' as he put it - like everywhere else. He offered me a bite and yes, they were so much better than the greasy tacos you get at a lot of places. And the tortillas - homemade for sure! He also ordered a breakfast burrito, which was a good size and packed with ham and eggs. He told me 'They don't skimp on the ham!" They brought me coffee in a gorgeous mug. I had been looking at the wall painting, wondering which Mexican state the mountains and greenery represented. But when I saw S.L.P on the mug, I knew immediately - gorgeous San Luis Potosi. Before we left, I bought a box of cookies and they are SO good. I like to eat one with my coffee in the morning. The wedding cookies, I think they're called, not too sweet, just right. You have to try this place and I am happy to...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to come Sunday after church, I wanted to try their enchiladas Potosinas since they looked good in some reviews. We sat right away, it wasn't too busy. My husband and I ordered the enchiladas along with 2 tacos al pastor and 1 taco de tripa extra crispy and 1 taco de carnitas. We underestimated the enchiladas when we ordered the tacos on the side. They are BIG! We ended up not finishing them. Flavor-wise they were ok, it needed salt or some type of flavor. Same with the tacos, no flavor. Now let's talk about service... the lady that took our order was nice and fast, however, we didn't know if our bill was going to be brought to us or if we needed to go to the register and pay but since we were ready to go my husband went to the register. Hmm, the girl working the register seemed to be bothered, my husband paid and asked for a to-go box and with a stank face she gave him one. I don't understand why though, we are paying patrons (first-time patrons). A smile goes a long way in my opinion there's no reason for the face. One thing I do not accept is bad service. Come back?...
Read moreVery tasty food. We ordered the enchiladas potosinas and the carnitas plate. Both were very good and decently priced around $7 a plate. Only thing is the enchiladas were a bit dry and would have liked more cheese in them but overall ok. The carnitas were my favorite since they were very juicy and flavorful. The red salsa is pretty spicy. They do have green salsa, but you have to ask for it. The green salsa was my favorite too. They do have good seating and are pretty clean. Will come back to try...
