This restaurant is a staple in Miami. It has been around forever or as long as I have lived here and I've been here since 1974 even before most of the followers on this app. So the restaurant has gone through many changes in it's lifetime. But let me focus on my newest experience last Sunday brunch with friends. First of all the restaurant had this cool wooden bridge that you would have to cross over to get to the restaurant. That since has been paved over with concrete and well even though I understand it took away a little of what I remember. The world war II plane is still there. The views from the restaurant to the landing views from Miami International airport are still breathtaking and the sound proof is still intact. The restaurant inside takes you back to that era. And I love it. Very nostalgic. Clean. And the service on point. I went for Sunday brunch. It's about $45.00 plus tax and tip comes out to be around $55.00. you get unlimited minosas for 2 hours and everything you can possibly would want to eat. They have a breakfast bar where you can order eggs however you want. Plus breads. Waffles. Fixings. You name it. Then by the bar is the sections of all salads. Fruits. Hot plates.( Pasta. Beef. Plantains. White and dark rice. Chicken. Fish. Pork. Seafood from paella to shrimp. oysters on the half shell. Mussels. . Further down you have the dessert tables including the famous chocolate floating fountain with the strawberries and marshmallows on sticks to dip. And in the middle of the pathway you have your coffees and breakfasts breads. Danishes. Coffee cakes. The food was super fresh and yummy. You got to pace yourself because it is a lot of food. They even have a piano man. This is the only part I was iffy about. Even though it was nice to hear the music it was loud. And that cause everyone else to talk louder and with the minosas flowing. A headache I got at the end. So if you like music to a point try to get seated away from the piano man. We sat four tables from.him. oh one point which I think it is super cute. If you have a birthday person in your group. We did. They do a super cute sound off version of happy birthday. Really worth it. I will be back. I hear one Friday nights are randitions of 1235 nights from the 1990's and the place...
Read moreCame for an early dinner with my sons after dropping my husband off at the airport. The ambiance was lovely, as always, and our waiter, Alex V, was outstanding! He, and the others who served us, were always attentive throughout our meal. Started off with cocktails; an Old Fashioned for me, an Aviator and a virgin Piña Colada for my minor son, which were all enjoyed. Next up… the Soup. The broth of the French Onion was just superb; however, the soup could’ve used a bit more toasted baguette under the Gruyère cheese. Aside from that, I’d give it a solid 5. And, the Beer Cheese soup was equally delicious! So much so, that my young picky eater had a second bowl as his entree. It was oh so creamy but, IMO, could’ve been slightly thicker. We then had the Crab Stuffed Mushrooms and Fried Calamari with lemon aioli. The mushrooms were exquisite but, aside from the aioli which was very good, the calamari was underwhelming in that the batter was not crispy enough and didn’t include my favorite part, the tentacles. Lastly, we shared the Rack of Lamb that was placed atop a small puddle of a rich guava thyme demiglace and garlic mashed potatoes. First, the lamb was super tender and cooked to a perfect medium rare. And the sauce… OH THE SAUCE… it was sooo effin good, we had to resist the urge of licking it off the plate. At this point, we were so stuffed, we were unable to have dessert, but having had them before, I can say you wouldn’t be disappointed. Been going to Squadron for many, many years and it never disappoints!! Alex, you were AMAZING and hope to see you again...
Read moreI had been here about 15 years ago. It was dirty, expensive, and the food mediocre. It was bad enough that I didn’t go back.
Tonight, my girlfriend suggested we give it a try. I didn’t tell her about my last trip there.
I had a shrimp appetizer. It was excellent. I had a NY steak. It was perfectly cooked, tender and delicious. The mashed potatoes were excellent. The vegetable medley was fresh and cooked al dente. They were perfect. The coconut flan was also excellent.
My girlfriend had mozzarella appetizer. It was good. Her salmon was perfectly cooked and flaky. It was moist and delicious. She had a baked potato and the same vegetables. Fresh and delicious. Her key lime pie was just ok. It tasted like regular limes.
Our server was Alina. Although she was very nice, and also attentive to her other tables, we felt ignored. She went to her other tables 3 times and still hadn’t returned to ours. After about 20 minutes of being ignored we grabbed another waiter. He immediately took our order and was very good. We got Alina back after that and again, we sat there ignored watching her take great care of her other tables.
Overall the food was excellent. Although the restaurant is well staffed and not overly crowded, the other patrons seemed to be well attended. Maybe we just got unlucky with Alina. Next time we will avoid her.
Expect a check for 2 with appetizers, main course, and dessert without alcohol to be about $140. The atmosphere is great, the food is great, and the prices are reasonable for the quality. 4.5 stars. It would have been 5 but our waiter...
