UPDATE: This is a beautiful hotel that needs better hotel staff training. So many things went wrong with my stay (Including staff walking into my room when it was occupied) and here are the hotel's response.
The first night a dog on the 8th floor was barking from 8:00pm. I was in and out of sleep and finally got ready at 6am and went downstairs to the front desk to complain. After talking to the front desk and security, I learned that someone else had already complained and the guard confirmed that they too started to hear the dog bark the previous night. The front desk said they didn't have a number on file for the guest, so they could not make the call (Which is very odd). I lingered for a bit and left when the front desk finally made a call to the room's occupant about their dog.
Why wasn't this already taken care of when the staff had already noticed something was wrong? I also realize that the staff has an attitude of "no, not possible" at first until finally doing something about a situation. THEY ARE NOT PROACTIVE. Hotel Response: No one reached out to me about this incident until I completed a mini survery on my phone and management called. They canceled my resort fee.
The second morning, as I was getting dressed, AN EMPLOYEE WALKED INTO MY ROOM! They scanned their keycard and had bags! I was so shocked and appalled by this because this is the biggest no no. They also did not knock before coming in.
As a woman that's traveling alone, this was an evasion of privacy and I DID NOT FEEL SAFE in my room after this. I ran out of the room to confront the employee and to get this sorted with the front desk but they just said they got the wrong room.
Hotel's Response: I texted management and they called. Originally, they said the best that they can do is give me a free lunch/dinner, a cabana, or a free stay. They could not refund my stay because I booked the trip through chase/Expedia.
Later management said they would give me a ONE DAY refund. This has still not processed and its been a week since my stay. My credit card has confirmed that a refund is possible.
I was very hopeful about my stay when I was able to check in early and got a personal call from management. Honestly, if the staff was a bit more detail oriented and proactive many of these incidents could have been avoided.
I will not be booking this hotel again for myself or the executives I book for in the future.
This review will be updated after the actual stay.
I will be making a Miami trip soon and I called the front desk for some guidance. Specifically, I asked about the fee and what is included.
The interaction felt a bit off especially because I asked if they could send me an email with the perks. The person on the phone told me she will not be sending me the email and that I can check the information online myself. I've actually checked the website previous to the call and I was having trouble finding the information I needed. I felt that I wasn't given much help.
I book hotels on the daily and I've never had an interaction that felt off. I've always had hotel staff that were patient and helped me with information, especially when I am not familiar with the area.
This hotel was recommended to me by a friend, so I was very excited for my stay. Now I am unsure if I picked a good...
Read moreThis is a great hotel with great service right in the Wynwood neighborhood of downtown Miami. The rooms were clean, modern, and very well designed. A touch too small, but I cruise a lot so everything feels spacious these days. The common areas were also clean and attractive.
All of this with very fair prices! Arlo Wynwood always prices good. If you are on a very tight budget, the rest of this wouldn't affect you, so you can look at this as 5-Star review.
Arlo Wynwood should get a 5-Star review, but their restaurant. MaryGold's angered me more than the hotel made me happy.
The downside of Arlo Wynwood is the onsite restaurant, MaryGold's.
I left a separate review for MaryGold's, and part of me feels it's unfair to take a star off the hotel for a separate business, but it is the onsite restaurant at the Arlo hotel. I must recommend hotels in Miami all the time, and the restaurant is a big part of what moves you from a 3- to a 4-star hotel. When someone asks for a 4-star hotel, they are expecting a restaurant onsite.
Since I would never go to MaryGold's again and can only recommend your hotel to those looking for a 3-star hotel, the restaurant must be factored into the review.
The service at the restaurant was the worst I've experienced at any restaurant. Ever.
I try very hard not to judge a restaurant on a single visit, but the real issue isn't actually about the bad service.
The issue is that they forced me to pay a 25% tip (plus tax on that tip amount) for this bad service. I expect an 18% or 20% gratuity to be added for a party of 8 or more, but ours was a party of 2. This means that a 25% tip is mandatory for every guest. It takes balls.
I'm guessing most people don't even notice, since most people charge it to their rooms and don't look closely at the bill.
25% is a generous tip for GREAT service. Making that mandatory for ALL service is disgusting.
Even worse is knowing that the restaurant keeps whatever portion of this they desire. By the mere fact that they make a 25% tip mandatory and have bad servers, my hunch is that they are keeping a good chunk of that themselves -- when most customers are thinking it is all gratuity for the server and the server's support staff.
In addition to being angered by this, it also makes me feel bad for the good servers. They are having some of their tips taken by the restaurant, and the bad servers are getting rewarded with generous tips for providing poor service. This is exactly the opposite of what tips are meant to be and why I wouldn't expect great service at MaryGold's in the future either. What is the incentive?
I will take another look at this review if I become aware of a management change...
Read moreWhere to start?? Horrendous!! Just a Horrible experience!! I waited several minutes being completely ignored while the front desk staff chatted, laughed & looked at their phones. After I finally cleared my throat, I was asked "Ohh are you ready. I was ready when I walked up to the desk?!? I reserved on booking.com, paid approximately $600 Upfront & was informed that no additional fees/monies would be required. Whelp, that was a Lie!! Upon arriving & checking-in I was asked for another credit card & informed that incidental fees of $150 per night was also required. But Wait... it gets better... you're charged an "Urban" Fee of 35+ per day for slow Wi-Fi, access to a graffiti museum and $15 daily "credit" for dining that Excludes Lucky Hour, Café and breakfast & 2 free cans daily of some horrible tasting water. So basically, you eat when they want you too!! Please note the pics attached regarding what I mentioned. Please note the food was bland, tasteless, and way overpriced. Like this hotel... The only item worth eating was the French fries. The burger I ordered was burnt & the aioli was gross. The Parmesan wings weren't cooked long enough, and when I sent them back, the staff complained in Spanish about me. Unbeknownst to them, I speak Spanish. Looks can be deceiving. The staff should be respectful of All patrons no matter how they look!! Definitely racist comments stating "They like their chicken cooked hard!" Who is They?? Just totally Unacceptable!!
Saturday was by far the absolute worst day! From early in the day around 10ish to late evening (well after 11 PM), Techno music was played...Loudly! I have Never experienced in my 30+ years of traveling experience these sort of shenanigans. I could not sleep in so I decided to go out in the pouring rain to take in the sights & get something good to eat. I couldn't go to sleep when I came back because of the music. When I inquired about this to the staff, their attitudes were completely dismissive.
This is the most overpriced and underrated hotel I have ever stayed at. As a person that travels often, this was by far an awful experience! I manage & coordinate travel for high level executives & would Never reserve for any of my executives who travel frequently to Miami for business. I'll definitely...
