I ordered four bars from Exquisito Chocolates online after watching their video on their chocolate making process on Youtube.
I could definitely see what they were saying about the unique notes of each type of cocoa. All four bars were more unique and complex than any mainstream chocolate I've had (Lindt, Ghiradelli, Equal Exchange, etc). After my wife and I finished our tasting, I tried a piece of off brand chocolate for comparison and found myself missing Exquisito Chocolates greatly.
My thoughts on each of the bars, from best to worst:
55% Tumaco, Colombia Caramelized Milk & Brown Butter ($10) - Both of us loved this one the most and agreed that we would absolutely buy it again. The decadent texture coated the tongue and delivered a rich bouquet of flavor from both the caramelized dairy and the cocoa. This bar let us enjoy the cocoa flavors the most; the milky background brought out the fine roasted flavors of chocolate, aromatic like a good cup of coffee.
Rice Rice Baby ($10) - This was indeed a nice dark chocolate version of Crunch. At first, both my wife and I found it somewhat forgettable. However, I keep coming back to munch on this one for reasons I can't explain. It's deep but approachable. I'm going through it faster than any of the others.
36% Cookies & Dream, White Chocolate & Oreo ($9) - My wife is usually a fan of cookies and cream chocolate bars, and she was fond of this one as a different, flavorful upgrade. She raved about having it with a glass of milk after finishing each bite. (I didn't really get it.) She would get this again for a special occasion.
73% Produits Des Iles, Haiti Dark ($9) - This Haitian bar is definitely earthy and complex. Despite what's said in the video, we found that there was an edge of bitterness to the flavor that my wife (a dark chocolate hater) still disliked. I found this bar to be a novel experience worth having, but didn't enjoy it as much as I was expecting. I felt like something was missing. I don't think I would buy it again at this price point.
Overall, if you're a foodie, Exquisito Chocolates are a lovely, unique experience and a wonderful way to enjoy...
Read moreI saw a video segment on YouTube about this place and was immediately intrigued to order from these guys. Unfortunately, I had to settle for shipping since I live in TX. I ordered some artisanal truffles and two bars. Standard delivery took around 7 days. The truffles were pretty and crafted with love, but the flavors just weren't there for me. Maybe it's the type of cocoa beans they use? I know that I have been exposed to commercialized chocolate most of my life, but I've also had a decent amount of high quality chocolate as well; so I believe that I am not being biased here. Next were the bars. The white chocolate bar with cookie crisp pieces was the one I was the most stoked for. The pictures online portrayed the bar having nice big chunks of crisp inside. Unfortunately I received the opposite. I couldn't taste any cookie crisp at all, nor see any pieces inside. Such a disappointment. The flavor of the chocolate was ok, but again, not for me. 24$ for the 6 truffles and 16$ for the two chocolate bars.... Overall, it's quality and no quantity here with subpar flavor profiles in my opinion. I'll just stick the the chocolatier in my city...
Read moreWe were visiting Miami and were going to head over to Exquisito chocolate to buy some chocolates when we noticed they had a chocolate factory tour for just $5. Carolina, the owner, gave us the tour, which really exceeded my expectations. I learned how Exquisito chocolates is the first bean to bar chocolate factory in Miami, how they work with select farms in South America to ensure that money goes directly to these farms and that there is no exploitation. Carolina has visited these farms many times herself. We learned the process of chocolate making and how by-products get re-used and sold to different clients to ensure that nothing is wasted. Their chocolate and chocolate by-products are sold to various local businesses like Azucar and Salty Donut. Carolina is so passionate and was eager to answer all of our questions. We got to try many different types of chocolates, which were all delicious! The tour was really informative and suitable for kids, chocolate lovers and non chocolate lovers. I was really really impressed and I encourage everyone to stop by Exquisito Chocolates to support this local business, which makes...
