Before I bury the lead: The food was top notch, tasty, quick, reasonably priced, and service was attentive and accurate.
We had pakora veggie fritters with a cool mint sauce I loved. There were a lot of them with plenty of sauces. I didn't even try the second sauce, totally going for the green sauce. I ordered the lamb saag, which was spot on just as good as my memories of my college days in Champaign, where there was an Indian restaurant I loved and I would always order it. Not only that, I think the price was comparable to a place I was going 20 YEARS AGO. Maybe a larger portion as well, I couldn't finish, there was plenty to take along. Both types of Naan were excellent, one filled with a fruit layer. My wife the had Butter Paneer, maybe I'm getting the name wrong, but it was essentially butter chicken sauce but with cheese instead of chicken, which she said she enjoyed. Plenty of ice water to drink, which I appreciated, the server was quiet but polite, accurate and prompt.
SO, the takeaway: Had I judged this book by its cover, we might not have come and would have missed out on a great meal, the "vibe" at this place was definitely a bit off:
It is attached to a former Ramada Inn with sign altered to read "AAA" with red spray paint. Clearly a former steakhouse or other restaurant. Restaurant decor is somewhat slap-dash/ an afterthought, although there was plenty of it. We were seated not far from a strange lucite candelabra - with skulls- adorned with tiny santa hats. Mind you, this is mid June.
The restaurant has a ton of seating but there were only one other couple leaving as we were coming in, and it seemed close to the dinner hour on a Friday. Concerning. There was stadium seating with three (of four) huge projector screens playing, you guessed it, Women's PGA golf. #3 was off and partially obscured by a popcorn machine at the end of the lunch buffet setup. I must say I want to try the buffet. I will say the place was not dirty, everything seemed pretty clean.
That said, the hotel it is attached to, which I visited for the use of the bathroom, seemed very lived in and permanently under construction. Wife said there was a lack of soap in the women's room - that said, I don't think there was a female employee. The soap dispenser was detached from the wall in the men's room, sitting on the counter haphazardly, but full of soap.
As we were leaving, we saw a man getting a big takeaway order. This place has tasty food but seemed perhaps struggling or perhaps an outsize location making it seem less busy than it actually was. It might be that they have a super reasonable lunch buffet that makes use of the seating, but no one comes there for dinner. The golf really threw me, as well as the 3 out of 4 screens being used, they are really missing an opportunity not showing movies here - seeing a Bollywood flick in here would be magical, but maybe they know their audience better. An interior decorator and their own bathrooms would go a long way to improving the atmosphere, the hotel is dragging them down, but I cannot disparage the food - I in fact RECOMMEND it and would like to time my travel next time so we are passing through during lunch for the buffet, I want to try a little of everything they have to offer. And move the damn popcorn machine! If you have 4 amazing projector screens, USE THEM ALL! That said, watching ladies' golf on the big screen...not the worst...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWorst Indian food I ever had in my life. I was traveling to Detroit from Chicago Ord airport with my in-laws. I found this restaurant for them to have an Indian food after long international flight to US from India. Coming to food we took the lunch buffet, there I see 2 chicken items butter chicken and chicken curry with boneless chicken( the texture of chicken is very soft and tastes like sweet. White Rice not cooked properly and chicken biryani also with non cooked rice and barely see the chicken pieces in it. When I asked them to refill the biryani because I donāt see the chicken pieces he told me refill only the food tray is empty ( I donāt consider itās a biryani itās just flavored rice with minimal chicken). We need to order naans separately which is shocking to me, I had Indian buffet in different states never seen purchase naan separately. Naan should be included in the buffet. All the items are sweet and I strongly say this is not at all an India food. When I entered I see only few Americans not single Indian person in Indian restaurants, immediately my instinct told me itās going to be worst food Iām going to have in buffet. As an Indian I donāt choose this restaurant because the taste is not at all reach to Indian food taste standards. Everything is sweet, blend and rice not cooked. The ambience is not that much good. Bathroom are worst condition to use and smell as well. I typical avoid these kind of restaurants. They run the business for American customers which they donāt know the real...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWorst service Iāve ever received at an Indian Restaurant. Currently sitting here with my boyfriend and weāve been waiting on the check for 10 minutes. Thereās no one else inside.
Before that each plate we ordered came out separately each taking 8-10 minutes to come to the table so we didnāt even get to eat together.
Would not recommend eating here. The service was very poor.
Update: About three hours after we left my boyfriend got severe food poisoning from this place from either the chicken or the old mango pickles.
I called the restaurant the next day after he had been vomiting all night and was called a liar and hung up on.
THIS PLACE IS A JOKE. DO...
