Update: Bob, the manager from this Panera location, called me first thing this morning and handled the situation very well. He is very concerned about all staff following proper food handling safety procedures. All contaminated food was discarded and Panera preps fresh produce daily. Bob had already sanitized the work stations/food holding areas. Bob posted my complaint and Is taking immediate steps to retrain all staff on proper food handling safety protocols to ensure quality food and a safe dining experience for everyone who dines at this location. I am raising my overall star rating from 1 star to 3 stars based on solely on Bob’s quick, concerned management response to these issues. Panera’s food is good and a good value, but it must be made from clean/quality ingredients, in a sanitary environment, using appropriate food safety protocols. Make it so, Bob! I’m quite confident that he will.
Previous Review: Dangerous. Report workers to health department. Terrible experience. 1.) Waited at counter 5+ minutes, then had to find worker. 2.) Worker balanced mop handle near woman’s room bathroom door, which fell on and tripped patron, completely blocking bathroom opening. Had to step over it to leave bathroom. Worker went behind counter to food prep area and donned fresh gloves, but DID NOT FIRST WASH HANDS after cleaning bathroom [upon returning to the prep line]before making food! 3.) Male worker on duty was wearing gloves while making food, but using his personal cellphone simultaneously. Other prep worker, not worker who cleaned the bathroom, told him to “put it away.” He put the phone in his pants pocket and immediately stuck his same hand in the arugula … without first changing gloves. I asked that he change gloves and remake my sandwich, but as he had already contaminated all the arugula and other lettuce and vegetables by using a non-sterile cellphone with the same gloves he was sticking in the food products, I could only safely eat a fully cooked item (read killed bacteria), so my sandwich was missing the arugula. The spoons he was using to top the onions, garlic aioli, were also touched with his non-sanitary gloves and repeatedly stores in the toppings. He literally contaminated every product touched. Not sure which person squished my new sandwich, but it seemed like either they just don’t care about the quality of the food or it was retaliatory. Either way, I am furious. Two other patrons, unknown to me, but one was the person the mop fell on, were also angry. This is absolutely inexcusable. SO MANY HEALTH CODE VIOLATIONS! Someone is going to get sick! These people were obviously trained, so should be written up by the shift manager. (I believe this is the person who told him to “put it [cellphone] away.”) These people are directly responsible for the health and welfare of the public eating at this Panera location. That is a very serious responsibility. The public must be able to trust the quality and safety of Panera’s products.Every food item either worker touched is contaminated and possibly dangerous to the public health. The food must be tossed. The restaurant must be completely sanitized and the managers and staff retrained, before they hurt someone. Do not risk eating here. Will update review if Panera contacts me to tell me how they plan to correct these issues with the Michigan City, Franklin...

Read moreMy wife ordered food 15 minutes before closing time without looking at the time prior to ordering it. We felt terribly and we were going to put forth an extra tip when we received our food. The app notified us our food was was ready. However, the experience once we got to the drove through went downhill from there. We waited at the drive through menu and window for 20 minutes with no acknowledgement. My wife then proceeded to wait at the front door to ask if our order was being made or not. At this point they had already locked the door for the night. Two workers were seated at the booth closest to the door, so she proceeded to knock on the window to get their attention. A worker came to the window to just say "We're closed". With no answer on the status of our food, I joined my wife at the window to try and get an answer with all employees looking at us from behind the counter or sitting in a booth. An employee finally got up and went to their computer and we were notified we received a refund. I appreciate finally receiving a refund after waiting outside for 10 minutes. However, the biggest issue was not being acknoledge after the mobile order had gone through and communicated through the app as READY. We understand being closed but we arrived to the restaurant 15 minutes prior to the closing time with no acknowledgement whether our order was being made. In the end, the staff did the right thing but could have handled the...
