After reading reviews of Biscuit Belly we decided to give it a try, hoping it was going to be amazing. The last time I ate in this building it was Zoe's Kitchen and I was bummed when that left. I believe it was another eatery between Zoe's and Biscuit Belly.
We visited on a Saturday and the wait was, quite literally, backed up to the door and a sign that said "Your wait from this point is about 20 minutes". I suddenly felt like I was in line for a roller coaster.
While we made our way through the line we were able to peruse the menu to see what we wanted to order. The other 17 minutes were spent with our feet inching forward, my stomach growling smelling great food that I couldn't eat yet.
When we finally made it to the counter and placed our orders, got our drinks, and sat down to wait for our food. While waiting I couldn't get over how loud this place is.
The crowd noise could some help, because it is seriously loud in this place. So loud I had to literally talk into my wife's ear in order to have a conversation. Distractingly loud. If there was ever a candidate for some sound-deadening ceiling baffles, this place would be it.
Our food arrived about 15 minutes after we ordered, bringing out in-restaurant time to over 30 minutes from the time we walked in the door. Not impressive.
I had the Mama's Boy because the jalapeño pimento cheese caught my attention. It didn't look like the picture. It was a lopsided pile of food that had the appearance of being very hastily assembled. It was pretty tasty, if lukewarm at best and the biscuit was a bit on the dry side. The jalapeño pimento cheese, though....yummz. I could have used some more of the pickles, too.
The staff was constantly, if not chaotically, in motion trying to keep tables clean. The tables are pretty tight and with the crowd this day it was a challenge to get around.
They've got some pretty good merch for purchase, as well. Being a collector of shot glasses, I added one to my collection of over 700.
I wasn't blown away by my first visit, and that could have been because of the stadium-event sized crowd this particular day. I'll visit again so I can hopefully better enjoy...
Read moreAs a long time gravy biscuit fan, I finally got around to swinging by this place to grab what I'm assuming is their staple menu item, The Go Goetta. To throw the quick review out there, it was really good - with a caveat.
On my first visit, I did end up getting the order to-go. I was disappointed upon opening the box though to notice two gravy containers with lids on top (one per biscuit). This was one of the cardinal sins even McDonalds committed some time in the late nineties with their gravy biscuits. What was once an order where the gravy was pre-poured on top had become a single piddly gravy container (often short of the brim). And although Biscuit Belly had both cups filled up to the top, I found the container too small for the size of the biscuit. The ratio was off, and I longed for more gravy - because the gravy itself is excellent. And the biscuit was top notch imo.
So, what would I like to see on this same carry out order? Well, going the DQ route where the gravy is poured on generously would be welcome. But if not, larger gravy cups/lids would be sufficient. If I can pour from the cup and not see a single part of the biscuit, that'd be ideal. But I think the next trip I make will be to dine in to see if the gravy portion is upped when the workers do the pour.
The dilemma here is deciding where I'm going to get my gravy biscuit fix on those days when I want to spend more than ten bucks. A couple of places like Highland Morning and Wild Eggs come to mind, and they're both great. Highland Morning gives a great portion of gravy while Wild Eggs on the other hand is pretty stingy, even when dining in. But when I compare the three places, I think I give the edge to Biscuit Belly. Because it really was good.
And while my belly was full of goodness, my heart not so much because of the gravy. Therefore...
Read moreThis place is the coolest! Before I get to the delicious food, I’ll talk about the experience walking in as a newcomer. There was a long line, which worried me a bit because I figured it would take a long time to get everyone sat. What I eventually learned is that this restaurant runs very differently than most. The line that you enter when you walk in is to place your order with a cashier up front. At the same time, a server or host finds a table for you. The beverages are self serve, apart from the specialty coffee drinks, etc., and then you seat yourself and they bring the food to you. This is a really efficient way to go out to eat, but they still have servers bringing your food and checking on you, so you don’t lose that human quality, either. In fact, the staff was very nice and helpful!
To drink, I got the cinnamocha and it was DELICIOUS! Usually my standards for coffee in a breakfast restaurant are lower than that of a coffee shop, but I would’ve been happy receiving this from a standalone coffee shop, it was so good! They do have oatmilk as well which is great!
I had the edgy veggie but I replaced the mushroom gravy with the smoked Gouda mornay sauce, and I ordered my egg poached. My husband, famously a chicken & waffles fan, ordered the “Chick ‘n Ditch the Waffle” which was fried chicken with biscuit style French toast and hot honey. We were both super happy with our entrees. We also signed up for their rewards program which earned us a free order of bonuts, biscuit donuts with cinnamon brown sugar dusting and a side of cream cheese frosting! YUM!
It was all so delicious and the experience was great, we will be back for sure! We sat inside this time but the outdoor patio looked lovely for next time if the weather...
