Walk in the door, the place smells dirty. That very specific "nothing is ever actually cleaned" smell. The young lady at the register is playing on her cellphone as i stood at the counter, and then looks at me like I'm interrupting and says, "yeah?" At this point I already wanted to leave but I was invested, and had a hungry family with me, so I held on to hopes that the food would outweigh the lack of customer service. My expectations weren't sky-high for sushi, in Middletown kentucky, in a "Chipotle" type restaurant...and sadly the sushi equated to such. One step up from gas station sushi imo. I wanted it to be everything it wasn't...which is sad considering the bar was already low in my mind. If your a basic (you know) that hasn't left the 502, let alone state...this is probably your go to "authentic Asian cuisine"! If you've ever had decent or better sushi and that's what you're after, avoid this dive at all cost. My stomach is bubbling as I type this. I'm sure the pumpkin-spice-latte Han Solo types keep this place afloat, thinking they're slamming primo cuts...but it's a hard pass for anyone that can differentiate a mc-double from a real burger. Save your money,...
Read moreGood food, at a great price, but with terrible customer service.
I went to Bento about a month ago and ordered a meal for my girlfriend and I. After ordering, we were left waiting for our food for more than 30 minutes. We even each proceeded to ask employees where our order was and couldn't get an answer. Eventually a young guy came out and told us that there was a bunch of orders, and that's why our food was taking so long. However, the store wasn't even close to being fully filled and, as a customer, I don't think that the number of orders should even be a concern of mine.
All in all, I don't dislike the food. Bento provides great food for the price. However, I think their service is very poor. Considering no one could provide me information when I asked where my food was numerous times, and I also never received any sort of compensation for my issue. If I were Bento, I would have addressed the issue and provided something small in return for the inconvenience (i.e. a discount on a future order). Doing so would have made me consider coming back and possibly referring the...
Read moreI am not sure why someone on here said it was overpriced... I got a whole bento box for 9 bucks. If you go to Hiko-a-mon it's like 21... If you get the tonkatsu ( which admittedly their katsu is chicken ) it's 15 dollars, and you have to pay extra for fried rice, it's 9 here. We also got 2 cutlets of chicken, a salad, the cabbage a starch AND a side. How is that overpriced?
The sushi is also standard rolls, 2 for 8 bucks, and the nigiri and sashimi is 3... that is not overpriced, or even expensive. This is one of the cheapest Japanese places we have in Louisville.
The food is good. Not amazing, but good. It is also a place that's easy to tell which rolls have raw fish in them which is a big deal for me, I can't stand the texture of raw fish. The sweet potato roll exceeded my expectations. I wish they had a Sunday morning (Smoked salmon and cream cheese rolled and tempura deep fried with eel sauce on top ) but mainly going for the amazingly cheap bento box. Fried Gyoza is amazing, it's deep fried, not pan fried which is great! Curious about the Poke bowl, and will be back to try...
