Overall good! We went for dinner on a Saturday and the place filled up FAST. We used the QR code website to order AYCE, which I think helped us get 3 big orders in less than an hour.
The miso soup took a while to come out, though we ordered it first and saw multiple batches being delivered to other tables with robots. Also, drink refills were a bit slow since we didn't see our server often; probably 5 different people brought our food and cleared plates. A gentleman who delivered one of the big plates of sushi (perhaps the owner/manager?) encouraged us to order more food, which was nice. Even with the time limit, we didn't feel rushed. The first plate with the nigiri had no wasabi, which while pretty for plating, I had to grab a random server to get some wasabi. The spam musubi was much larger than I was expecting, but that was probably my bad. The entree "samplers" however seemed like full sized dishes! One in our party couldn't finish the large amount of rice leftover and we weren't charged. Basically, until they get their portions sorted out, I wouldn't worry TOO much about being charged for waste/leftovers... Just eat what you can and don't order more until your current order arrives.
Please make the entree samplers smaller? 🙏🏼 Also, please add a mixed tuna roll with wasabi sauce or at least not yuzu sauce? I found the citrus flavor of the yuzu overwhelmed the rest of the roll.
Overall, the quality of the food varied pretty heavily from item to item, but the restaurant was very busy, we ordered a lot, and the place is still new. I think there were at least 4 people making sushi rolls at top speed the whole time we were there. I really enjoyed the appetizer and dessert options and plan to go back to try a bunch of the entrees once/if they're smaller.
I really liked the look and atmosphere of the place, even if some of the hangings of writing are backwards or some of the crane panels are upside down. Most people won't notice or be able to tell, though.
I look forward to visiting again, just maybe on a...
Read moreTried Chubby Ninja today for lunch after seeing all the positive reviews, but I was not at all impressed. I arrived when they opened and was quickly seated. Not long after, I was greeted by my server and placed an order for pork bao, egg rolls, and a sushi roll. The bao came out quickly and the egg roll about 10 minutes after that. The problem was the sushi. Twenty minutes after my order went in it still hadn't arrived. My server stopped to check in on me finally and noted the sushi hadn't arrived and went to check with the kitchen. About fifteen minutes later it finally arrived. Now, I'm very familiar with sushi restaurants and the time stuff like that takes to make. Thirty five minutes for a sushi roll is ridiculous, even for a busy spot like Sake Blue, but this place was practically empty. To make things worse, the sushi was grocery quality at best. The shrimp was overcooked and had a rather overpowering fishy flavor, hinting it wasn't fresh. I forced myself to eat the whole roll, or I'd be charged extra for leaving leftovers. I finished with an order of gyoza and paid my tab, having spent an hour at lunch mostly just waiting for food.
Another issue which I was not happy with was being served food on dirty dishes. I didn't make a fuss about it, but there was a piece of nori stuck to the bottom of one of my plates (seen in photo) that obviously wasn't washed properly. That's just nasty.
I will not be returning to Chubby Ninja for a good while, if ever. Maybe once they've been open for six months or so things might improve. Overall I'd give my visit a single star, but I am giving them a bit of slack for only being open for three weeks.
To the Restaraunt: improve your kitchen speed and the frequency your servers check on their tables. For a timed buffet your service is currently much too slow for times when your establishment is almost empty. And do a better job of cleaning your dirty dishes before sending them back out into the...
Read moreI was a bit skeptical entering. But once inside I warmed up with the natural colors and casual yet ordered atmosphere. Wood materials surround you from the tables to the slatted wood textured rain screen thst lines the walls. Inverted umbrellas hang overhead. Thst reminded me of Rainbow Street in the Dominican Republic. Obviously this is Japanese inspired. Even the lighting seems to be some type of woven plant fiber. . .
Now for the food. . . Delicious. That's all I can say. Deep flavors and honest Japanese menu with a few twists. One being a Chinese sandwich that I didn't care for because of the texture of dough in my mouth. But the Japanese Curry, and the Peppered Ahi Tuna. Filled me with joy as they were the first things I tasted. The sandwich was a last minute " I want to try that". . . I opted for thr all you can eat $30.00 option. They also offer an A La Carte Menu. . . The process are reasonable, and the robots and severs are all amazing. . . I guess I was hard on thr atmosphere because I frequent Sapporo in the Highlands. The sushi tower. Almost made me close my eyes and just want to taste the flavors. I appreciated the thickness of the rice and the freshness of the chopped and sliced fish that adorned the top of the tower. That sauces and flavors played a tasteful symphony that danced across my taste buds and slide happily into my belly. The Chubby Ninja is an appropriate name. . . Maybe I'm just used to a more complicated / upscale dinning room. . . DONT GET ME WRONG. It's far from dissappinting. I guess since reaching 40. I am seeking mature things. . . Not that this is immature. . . Just give it a try. . . Still a solid 5. And I don't give...
