I love Perkatory. I think the ambiance is great, music is great, and coffee drinks are solid. Having worked at other coffee shops, you can't go wrong with Perkatory overall.
I have one complaint though, regarding how they close the store. As a customer there I have left several times with a bad taste in my mouth. My wife and I have come and camped for the afternoon to work on things. I like to read or work on homework in the lobby, but have on several occasions felt like I was being pushed out of the cafe at close earlier than the advertised hours.
What I mean is, if they say they close at 5pm, the staff will begin closing tasks early, like 4 or 4:15. This would be fine, except they do like vacuuming, mopping, or cleaning the bathrooms a full hour before they close the lobby. I've seen them stack chairs and move tables to mop thirty to forty minutes before the lobby closes, and one time closed the bathrooms a full hour before closing. This often leaves me feeling unwanted as a customer in the lobby.
Like I said, overall Perkatory is great, I've just been disappointed this way...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent to Middletown to have a bike serviced at the local bike shop. Had to kill about 45 minutes and was told about the coffee roaster. No brainer for me. Shop is tucked in back at one end of Main Street. Entered into a what looks like an old warehouse. Great place I thought. Followed the Covid distancing trail to the service counter. Was greeted and ordered a cappuccino and a bb muffin. Very friendly staff. Was intrigued by the shops logo and ādeath before decafā. Decided to buy some beans as well, Guatemalan. Had a seat at one of the appropriately distanced table and removed my hospital grade mask. Very good cappy, thoroughly enjoyed the muffin. Next day at home did a medium grind with the beans that were just roasted a couple days before. This is my 5 am brew with my Chemex. Great aroma and taste that will make you feel you died and went to āperkatoryā š. Will be buying some additional Guatemalan when my lb. gets low. I know where Iām going next time I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm a bit of a coffee addict. I've been to every notable coffee shop in the area, and avoid dunkin and starbucks unless its an emergency.
Coffee: Perkatory roasts the best beans. I always order pour-overs so I can't speak to lattes or fancy multi ingredient drinks. But on beans alone Perkatory has the best single origin and blends in the area. I normally stop by for a couple cups but I recently brought home a bag of beans, their holiday blend. And it holds up being made at home as well. Giv coffee is another notable local coffee roaster and a lot of cafes use Giv beans but I believe Perkatory to be superior roasters. (Giv makes great coffee tho no shade.)
Location: Hidden off of main street, across from Noras, but with plenty of parking. The space is industrial and skater and super chill. Not pretentious or snobby, always a kind staff, feels like a home away from home, living room vibes. Always supporting local artists and crafters.
