I've never been to Tea Top and because of the rating I decided to give it a try. This rating is specifically about staff behavior on 4/6/21. The Earl Gray Milk Tea and the Grapefruit Green Tea was good, but not exceptional, so combined with the negative experience with the staff, I'm probably not going back, especially when Teaspoon on Calaveras Blvd and Cha Cha on Milpitas Blvd are closer to the main fairway and I've consistently had a their delicious teas and a positive staff experience at those locations.
Maybe it was an off day for both the staff, but when I walked in...no greeting. When I asked for clarification about their signature drinks, they seemed irritated that I needed clarification. Second, because of the plexiglass between us, hearing the explanations were difficult and when I asked that the info be repeated, the cashier visibly sighed out loud but did not speak any louder. I missed the explanation and decided to stick to ordering the standard drinks listed above.
I was asked to wait outside for my order, and after a longer than usual wait, I went inside to ask about my order, the employee that made the drinks said she had "called out" the order was ready. I told her she needed to speak louder -especially since we were outside -- she just laughed and rolled her eyes. Not sure if they work there everyday, but in this ongoing environment where I have many choices. I will be choosing to spend my time and...
Read moreI was really excited to try this place because most of the recent reviews are good. I got the hot milk foam Sun Moon Lake Black Tea with extra $0.70 for boba. I was offered a loyalty card with my first stamp. Pleasantly surprised to get my drink after a few minutes of ordering. Drove away and was sipping away at my drink, which was delicious!! Stirred, sipped, stirred some more, and I was waiting for ONE boba pearl to come through. Realized 1/3 through my drink that there was no boba.
Had to drive back, showed my receipt and let them know there was no boba in my drink after I drank through 1/3 of my drink. I was expecting an apology, and maybe a top-off of my drink since it wasn’t even a completed drink. I got no apology, but they at least took my 2/3 filled drink and added some boba. 2 stars off for no apology (I mean, at least say sorry for the inconvenience of driving back right??), and I tipped too. :,) Probably won’t go here again. Thanks for the loyalty card I...
Read moreThe boba/tea standards in the bay area are high, and Milpitas already had a high concentration of boba tea shops before Tea Top opened up a few years ago. I will have to say though that they've definitely come to become a strong standard in the area with quality teas, great boba, and a good consistency with their product and customer service regardless of when you go in.
The only thing I would change about them would be to wish that their venue space seemed more inviting for hanging out. I really enjoy the atmosphere of Factory Tea Bar in Fremont; makes you want to meet up with friends there. The atmosphere of Tea Top is clean, but just doesn't have the right modern vibe. But that's a pretty small impact factor; not enough for me to dock them off a star.
Quality, price, and consistency are the true winners here. I go to Tea Top and grab drinks to go because I know I'll get what I expect, and they'll craft the drinks quickly. (I-Tea can have ridiculously long waits...
