[Time & Date of visit]: Various lunches and dinners
[Location/Ambiance]: The plaza is shared with 3-4 other restaurants. Parking for lunch time is spacious, while dinner might be a little crowded but still easy to get a space. The building itself is shared with Sushi Nami, though the entrance for Volcano is on the west end of the building with alcove. Sushi Nami entrance is facing the street. The music throws off the setting as they are usually playing EDM / Trance / Lounge type. There various abstract paintings and designs through the restaurant and neon lighting here and there. I feel that the layout says lounge, but the vibe is way more chill than anything.
[Service]: Lunch time seem more attentive, but during dinner service can be a little bit slow at times. Sometimes a slight miss more than I hit I think. Sushi is usually brought out when all orders are ready. I think this takes a while due to how they setup up the plating for the rolls. Sashimi is usually is set on a huge bowl of shredded ice to keep it cool. This is a pretty nice gesture.
[Food Highlights]:
Egg Drop Soup - usual Chinese food fare.
Ginger salad - same here, just the usual as every where else. Though they are generous on the ginger dressing.
Rainbow Roll - Pretty good, though sometimes the fish selection isn't uber fresh. It's still pretty solid.
Special Crunch Roll - Not mind blowing, but still good. Haven't had a bad one yet from them.
Salmon - Sashimi - Served over a bowl of chipped ice. Sometimes it's buttery fresh, sometimes you can taste that it's been sitting in the fridge / freezer for a little bit. Thick cuts and served in a pair.
Scallops - Sashimi - My bestest is fan of these, I still prefer mine seared. She gives it a meh'. It's not as fresh as other places.
Sesame Chicken w/ Fried Rice - Better than your usual chinese restaurant take out, but not overwhelming good nor great.
Caterpillar Roll - As the same as the special crunch roll. I like it, but it's not slap your mamma good. Just still pretty good.
{Summary}: With the half off for sushi and sashimi (for dine in only) this is a great deal for that sushi fix with out breaking the bank. Some rolls are meh. Most sashimi have are served with two slices. If your on a budget but fiending for some sushi / sashimi, Volcano is the spot. Just don't go bringing your out of town friends to impress if their...
Read moreI don't even know if I can compose a polite review. I only give them a 1 because Google doesn't allow a -5. DO NOT go here. You will NEVER get served. We waited 50 mins for drinks. We got here at 5:30 so that we could have a quick family dinner on Christmas. The restaurant was by no means packed when we arrived. Yet it took 30 minutes to even take our order. Then over an HOUR for the food to arrive. Half of the table was served at the 45 minute marker. They finished their meals, then we waited a further 15 mins for a further quarter of the food to arrive. And another 10 mins for the rest of the table. It was ridiculous. Before the second half of the table's food arrived we asked for the manager. He didn't arrive until 25 minutes later. And as I witnessed around the restaurant, our experience was not unique. The take out wait was insane. I heard people saying that the restaurant said it was going to be ten minutes 25 minutes ago. Then they tried to rush out the food to placate them and it was the wrong order. I looked around the room and people were exasperated looking around and rolling their eyes and huffing. After the manager came over and gave us 50% off (we had already requested free drinks (1 per person) and they STILL charged us) we waited further and then he came back and only took 50% of the food!!! It was ridiculous. I don't think I've ever been so pissed off at a restaurant. We gave then anple opportunity to correct. We politely inquired about our drinks several times and the food several times. They could have taken notice then but didn't. We also were informed by our waitress that they didn't have a bartender. For one, pretty sure that's illegal. And second, don't open if you don't have the staff to handle it. We might have had 8 adults but we called well in advance and made a reservation. There are no excuses. All-in-all it was the worst 1hr 45mins of my life and I wish we had gone somewhere else. Edit And this was not the first time. We went there last year for Christmas and had to wait a long time (although not as long) and the food arrived at the table 20 mins apart. After this year, we have decided to pick...
Read moreUpdate: I gave them 2 more chances hoping that was a very rare bad experience but both additional tries were bad. So it’s a no for me. Unfortunate. ———————— I had the WORST customer service experience with the restaurant. I get sesame tofu when I eat there but it is never listed as an option on UberEats. I’ve been told by this place in the past to just choose Sesame Chicken and, in the special instructions box, ask them to use tofu instead. I have done that in the past and it was never an issue - they always gave me tofu as specified. Last night I did it and got chicken. I can’t eat meat, so it isn’t something I could just deal with and eat instead. I called the restaurant to try to get it rectified and the guy who answered the phone immediately was giving me an attitude. He was talking over me, wouldn’t let me explain the issue or ask questions, etc etc. Eventually I was like “can you let me speak?” And after I said what happened he said, “Are you done?” And ultimately wouldn’t refund or fix the issue because he said the special instructions no longer show on the tickets (1. i ordered it how I have been told in the past by the staff to order it, 2. It not showing on their end anymore isn’t my fault or error so I shouldn’t be paying the price, 3. Why put a special instructions box if you can’t see what the person writes in it?, 4. I have done it a few times in the past and always get tofu so clearly they do see the special instructions, 5. If they switched to a system that no longer shows the instructions, again, that wouldn’t be my error so they should refund it because how are consumers supposed to just magically know that what they put doesn’t show up on their tickets anymore?)
So I waited an hour and spent all this money just to be served food I couldn’t eat and be given attitude. I used to really like this place and they used to be very nice - I don’t know if they switched staff since I last went or what but the way the guy spoke to me and handled the conversation makes me not wanna order from them or eat...
