Terrible vibes all around. My partner and I moved to the neighborhood a little over half a year ago and were excited to see Alma was so close to us. We have been nothing but let down since visiting. Not only are the prices for the quality of product you are receiving absolutely ridiculous but the service is downright terrible. If I wanted to feel like I was in lunch room being glared at by the mean girls while I take my tray to cry in the bathroom I would go back to high school. In the many chances we have given, the baristas have been consistently rude and standoffish, and always give the vibe that you are ruining their day just by walking in the door. The service is also ridiculously slow, no matter what time of day we visit and how busy it appears. I want to note that my partner and I both work in the industry, and I am more than willing to cut some slack and chalk it up to a bad day, but I don’t think I have ever walked in the doors of this place and felt welcome. We had a friend stay in town and decided to stop in to grab a quick morning coffee, when he made the simple request of adding milk to his coffee the barista straight up told him no. There are genuinely so many better cafes to visit in the city that are not only better quality for a cheaper price but actually provide a welcoming environment for their patrons. I seriously don’t understand how it ever gets busy here, I’m convinced people pretend to like it because they think it’s trendy when in reality I’ve never seen a place more stuck in 2018 than Alma. Don’t go here unless it’s a last resort, the one thing they have going for them is being open on Mondays while most of their...
Read moreI like the idea of Cafe Alma better than the experience, especially as a really big fan of Restaurant Alma and Brasa. Service is good when you can get it, food is usually great. But everything is so passive with the counter service and QR code ordering with a hint of chaos with the counter service people waiting and the people waiting to find a seat and order at the table clogging up the place. Sometimes drinks come out in a few minutes, sometimes 10-20. Sometimes your food comes out at a nice pace, sometimes you just sit at your table for 30 minutes as you wonder why does it take so long for a simple bowl of oatmeal? Sometimes you wonder why the food item advertised the prior day via email is not available on the menu. This place just usually puts me in a heightened state of anxiety, balanced with the shame of always coming back and having the same gosh darn experience, backed by a few memories of some amazing meals. That said, don't sleep on the breakfast sandwiches they are fabulous (I don't know when you will get yours, but eventually it usually comes). I feel like this place could really shine with wait staff to help ease the friction between the passive wall of the QR code and line at...
Read moreVisited daughter in Minneapolis and she always takes me to some really great places. This was one. I opted for the tomato soup and a bib salad with buttermilk dressing and a local craft beer. Daughter had the saffron rice with chickpeas. Also enjoyed the sourdough bread with jam and butter. The beer arrived exceptionally cold and very, very tasty. I apologize for not remembering the brewery but trust me, it was a mild IPA with a hint of dry as you swallow. Very well done. The tomato soup was absolutely perfect! It had chunks of tomatoes with an herb taste that was served piping hot (a MUST) and topped with homemade croutons. Jeeminy, my taste buds were screaming for more as I shoveled it in as fast as I could. The sourdough bread was perfection! I love this kind of bread when it's not tangy and this was not! Daughters rice bowl was far from bland and the chickpeas were cooked so they weren't mushy nor crunchy. 👍our server was a bit busy and didn't engage at all. Perhaps she was too engaged in her job. This place is not be missed! Definitely go...
