It was a rare outing for us this summer; we didn’t need to go indoors at all and our river-side table was nicely spaced from other patrons. We enjoyed it lovely bistro atmosphere nestled into 125 SE Main St, Minneapolis, MN. We think the price and portions are great – in line with fresher and better food. I quenched my thirst with the non-alcoholic Mirage beverage and liked it so much that my companion ordered one later. We recommend the Beet and Feta Salad, Watermelon brisket tacos, and the Shawarma Bowl. It has Amish chicken, cauliflower, olives, loads of feta, pepperoncini and is nicely spiced. There was enough to share. Our server was a very young man who was absolutely stellar. He was very attentive, timely, helpful with menu QandA, and just bright and positive. The patio was buzzing with diners thankful for returning restaurant goers, such a setting and service, according to several we spoke at a comfortable with. A wonderful and safe-during-COVID Friday night outing. Next time I intend to try their cheese plate or charcuterie board – and am sure that I won’t be disappointed. Their menu stands out for those who love healthy eating over the typical burger place. It wasn’t hard to find metered parking nearby. Seems nice to have the cheerful red patio table umbrellas in case it rains or for a bit of shade.

Immaculate food, vibes, and music at this past Saturday’s Swing Brunch. I’ve been wanting to visit Aster Cafe for years, and I’ve heard great things about their musical brunches. I finally made a reservation for Sunday morning at 10:30 am. Music starts at 11, and I’d recommend arriving at 10:30, so that you have some time to chat with your dining party before the music starts. Everything at the swing brunch was perfect. I ordered the French toast bake, and my friend ordered the quiche. Both dishes were superbly baked and incredibly moist. The fresh toast bake was full of flavor, and the texture was superb. I tried my friend’s breakfast potatoes, and they were well-cooked and well-seasoned. The coffee was so pleasant too. Now, onto the vibes… The inside of the restaurant is dimly lit and elegant. It feels like a French brasserie. The bar is so beautiful too. The music only added to the French feel. It was upbeat and lively, and I loved the brass. A number of folks danced, and it was so fun to watch them float about the room. Each couple had a different style. Overall, I felt transported by the Swing Brunch. I’m the future, I’d love for them to host musicians on the outdoor patio as well for a different vibe. I’ll definitely be back!

Just had brunch there with a friend on Sunday. They have a nice HUGE patio with the tables nicely spaced. And, a great bench area to sit if there is a wait. We were told about 30 minute wait so wanted to go in and get a bloody mary to start the day off right. Was told the bar was not open for walk up so would have to sit at a table inside, order the drinks and then bring them out to the waiting area if that is where we wanted to drink them. A bit strange, but so are the times. The gals at the hostess stand came and told me when there was a table open and the waitress in there knew the gig, so worked fine. Table ready earlier than expected, I think cuz we were willing to sit in the sun and had a great brunch. Waitress attentive and nice, food was great. Would definitely return. Friend had the avocado toast, looked amazing, so scrimping on the avocado. And, I had the eggs bennie. Not your standard by any means - the home made sausage was strong on fennel, but I enjoyed it. Glad the biscuit was not too thick or that would have ruined it. Nice potatoes on the side. Bloody was spicy.

I enjoyed the food and the vibe at Aster Cafe! The culture was so upbeat and everyone there was there to have a wonderful night out. My friend ordered the bulgogi kimchi bowl and tacos. I had the vegetable dumpling soup w/bread and beef stew. I was really into the dumpling soup, it was so original and had a unique taste to it. That's probably one of my favorite dishes I've had in a while. I was not a big fan of the beef stew as I'm not a stew person in general but I wanted something warm. It tasted pretty blend to me so you might have to add in salt and pepper. But my friend thought otherwise. We liked the tacos && thought it was pretty unique that they added watermelon. May sound weird but it doesn't taste as bad as you might think! My friend enjoyed his kimchi bowl but thought there was too much kimchi so he couldn't savor the flavor of the meat. The service their was great, the staffs and even customers were friendly. There was a live band as well. Aster cafe completed our night. I'll have to go back for the dumpling soup soon.

We stopped for dinner & drinks because a friend, Jay Roberts, was playing on stage that evening (great show!). Lovely for a date, the atmosphere was lamplit, a bit rustic/eclectic, and cozy. (I've heard great things about the patio in the summer, but that ship has sailed for this year.) I ordered the winter pear salad, which was fresh and quite enjoyable--lots of good flavors and textures...a moderate but satisfying portion. My date's "basil flatbread" (a round, thin-crust cheese pizza, lol) was alright but basic. Vegetarians, you'll likely be able to find something suitable and very palatable, albeit peripheral, on the menu. Unless you want a hummus plate, I fear my plant-based friends may be out of luck. I was happy with my meal and would probably visit again, but the signature dishes were meat-based, a surprising missed opportunity for a contemporary menu. If you're going to order a drink, the chartreuse swizzle & the cucumber cutie were excellent.

I am the owner of Celisia Stanton Photography, and one of my clients had a brunch wedding at Aster Cafe last year. Aster Cafe is a fantastic venue for an intimate wedding. The getting-ready rooms have huge windows with tons of natural light, which allows us to capture indoor photos without struggling with awkward shadows or uneven lighting. Aster set up a tent and chairs next to the building for the ceremony, which had the ideal intimate outdoor feel. For the brunch reception, the inside of Aster's reception space has beautiful exposed brick and decor that allowed the client to have a reception space with a unique feel without having to add much as far as decoration. As a bonus, Aster Cafe is located in the heart of St. Anthony Main, so there were tons of beautiful areas nearby for the couple to sneak off for couple's photos. I highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for an intimate Minneapolis wedding with a unique city feel.
