While I have loved the Kitty Kat Club since I was an undergrad, tonight I had the most disappointing experience. I showed my government issued passport at the door, and as a server in the Minneapolis industry, am aware of the legality of it's presentation. The door person proceeded to argue (mockingly) with me when I disagreed with their statement "passports are not accepted in bars." Letting them know I am in the industry myself, and know the state law, they repeatedly continued to tell me "not in bars." I asked if I should leave as they won't accept the "invalid id" and then I was told I could enter the establishment regardless. WHAT? If it is invalid shouldn't I not be served? I would normally brush these issues off, however this door person chose to tell my coworkers who followed me in later that we got into an argument over my passport's validity. This was extremely poor guest service, they could have been much more cordial in handling the situation, they should not have discussed this issue with other guests, and in fact, could have called a manager over. I chose to leave the Kitty Kat Club and all my coworkers (we were out for post-training mingling as we are all staffed to run the new Varsity Theatre).
I am extremely frustrated by the lack of professionalism or knowledge from this employee. Please refer to the MN statute below:
340A.503 PERSONS UNDER 21; ILLEGAL ACTS. Subd. 6. Proof of age; defense; seizure of false identification. (a) Proof of age for purchasing or consuming alcoholic beverages may be established only by one of the following: (3) a valid passport issued by the...
Read moreThis is one of my favorite bars in Minneapolis.
I love the atmosphere. The lighting is dim and colorful. There are colored light bulbs everywhere. There is random artwork all over the walls, the bar is wood with melted candle wax all over it.
The couches are comfortable, large and any person will sink in them. This is a great place for a date and to get together with friends. I love coming here in the winter where I can lounge on the couches with my friends and have some drinks.
Parking is not great. It's in Dinkytown, so you'll have to park a few blocks away and walk unless you take the bus.
The service here is ok. Some people are friendlier than others. There is a stage and dance floor for live music and dancing.
There is a small patio on the side of the bar. They have heat lamps on the...
Read moreFine place, however the person at the door had never seen a passport before and wouldn’t take it as a ID. Then he accepted a voided out of state license as as valid ID. Beware if you’re traveling with a passport, which btw is a totally acceptable form of ID as far as I can tell in Minneapolis for entering bars (MN Statute 340A.504). He said the reason he didn’t want to take a passport is because some people have restrictions on their MN identification cards not allowing them in bars? But, he was fine with a out of state ID that was no longer valid? Idk. I found it extremely...
