Truly the most excellent sushi MN has to offer. If you want deep friend and mayo covered sushi, go somewhere else.

They have tons of vegan and gluten free options also, just let them know your dietary restrictions! It's the only place I can comfortably take my stepfather who has celiacs and several other allergies because they're sooo good about food prep!

This restaurant is teeny tiny with super hardworking staff (they bus, wash dishes, bartend, host, and serve!! And there are only two chefs!! Wild!!) so sometimes they are out of things or the service is slow. If you can get over the occasional slow service (it's definitely not always slow), you'll be granted the freshest and most authentic experience in MN.

The prices are unbeatable for the kind of quality, the staff is quirky and fun, and the owner is a literal god of sushi! An example of the quality (and why you might be waiting a little longer) would be the rolls with cooked parts like tempura or soft shell crab. I worked at a few sushi restaurants and they always make the spider and salmon skin for the rolls before the restaurant opens then it sits in a warmer until you order (ew!!) but at Midoris, each piece of tempura, soft shell crab, and salmon skin is MADE TO ORDER in the kitchen when you order it! Almost all of the sauces are made from scratch! It's truly an unbelievable effort they make to make healthy and fresh food and it's so delicious.

So, maybe don't come to this place if you're not used to small businesses or made to order items or the idea of waiting longer bothers you. But if you're patient and have a little time, this is definitely a gem and easily the best sushi restaurant in MN.

Bonus points, they're nice to you even if you're disabled, black, brown, queer, or if you're just a bit of a weirdo. In these times, it's important to know you'll be treated the same as other patrons regardless of what you look like or who you are.

Edit** Folks who complains about the prices must not have any idea what similar...

If you're willing to wait through poor service, the sushi is good. Not excellent, but good.

On arrival, we were told that unless we had a reservation (which they tell you on their website you must call and speak to a lesson to make - no messages, no online reservations), it'd be 30 minutes. In the five minutes while we were figuring out if we could wait that long, two tables opened up. The waiter's response? "I guess you're lucky!" (No, I guess you can't estimate the flow of your customers well.)

35 minutes later, I had the wine I'd ordered right after he brought our waters. 50 minutes later we had our miso soup. Waters were never refilled.

In between, I was told that they couldn't guarantee that a food allergy could be accommodated (when we ordered all our sushi in one order, I'd asked that the prep surface and knives be cleaned before our sushi was made due to a scallop allergy). I get that no restaurant can 100% guarantee against cross-contamination. But I've also never had a restaurant tell me that maybe I shouldn't order food (what the waiter actually said); the many other restaurants we've been to, including many local sushi restaurants, have been very accommodating of what I totally understand is a hassle. I asked if they really couldn't clean the work surface and knives ... He said he'd check again. 10 minutes later, he finally came back with my wine and I asked "does this mean we can get our food?" He mumbles back that it should be fine. (For the record, it was.)

The sushi itself was good. Not the best I've had, but good. But given the lack of service and the general feeling that they just didn't want customers to actually be there, we...

We went in with high expectations because they had onigiri and donburi beef bowls on the menu. The reviews rated them at 4.5+ so we felt it would be an automatic win. We called to enquire about the wait, 1 table available and they held it for us. We arrived and were seated, and were told certain ramen items weren’t available. No problem. I ordered and oolong tea and looked over the menu. Items were penciled out, but nothing we wanted so ok so far. We didn’t see onigiri, but they had a deep fried rice ball so we were ok. Time to order, no rice balls, no beef bowls, after a second of disappointment the waitress asked if I needed more time. I said, no I think we should leave since nothing else appealed to me. The waitress apologized and got the bill for the tea. We didn’t even drink the tea, but I paid anyway and left. Automatically the tea should have been free, but that’s a piece of customer service that seems to be missing in...

Cozy atmosphere with reasonable decor. My vegetarian wife was thrilled with the number of options for her, with nearly every soup having a choice of fish or mushroom broth. We ordered the vegetable dumpling appetizer (gyoza) which were quite good, and she got the mini bento box with vegetables tempura and sushi. She enjoyed it immensely, especially the tempura. My Kitsune Soba (mushroom broth) was good, but I was left wanting for more stuff (seaweed, scallions, etc.) and fewer noodles. My wife is very excited to come back and wants to get the biggest plate of tempura possible.

We really enjoyed our visit to Midori's. My daughter is taking an intercultural class in college and one of her assignments was to go eat at one of 10 or 12 restaurants, and Midori's was on the list. She had never been to a Japanese restaurant so she explorered a new dish and really enjoyed it. I stuck with teriyaki chicken which was excellent. We tried some fried wonton desert and ice cream stuffed mochi. The food was delicious from soup to desert. Service was excellent as well. It was a slow night so we got extra attention.

Excellent quality sushi, delicious and fresh. Pleasant restaurant, good service. Midori's is the best restaurant sushi we've had in the twin cities (we've tried a lot). We got sashimi, fried scallops and gyoza, all amazing. This place embraces the slow food movement; quality takes time. Service was good, not rushed or slow. If you're looking for dine & go, look elsewhere. If you're looking for exquisite, traditional sushi made by Japanese hands, this is the place for you.
