Our recent family lunch at Moroccan Flavors, located in Midtown Global Market, felt like stepping into a warm Moroccan embrace. The soothing blue décor, inspired by Chefchaouen, created a calm oasis—a welcome contrast to the lively energy of the surrounding food hall. The open layout, with both group and counter seating, offered comfort and flexibility for families and solo diners alike.
We began with a sampler of Mediterranean salads: spicy cauliflower, roasted beets, marinated peppers, and more, served with toasted baguette. Each dish was fresh, flavorful, and meticulously prepared, and the variety kept everyone at the table engaged. For our main courses, we chose the lamb shank tagine, chicken tagine, and beef couscous. The lamb shank stood out as especially memorable—tender, deeply seasoned, and exceptionally satisfying. The chicken tagine featured preserved lemon, olives, and aromatic turmeric rice, perfectly balancing brightness and warmth. The beef couscous was hearty and comforting, with generous portions and rich flavor.
The staff made the experience even more enjoyable. Chef Hassan and his team welcomed us warmly and offered helpful recommendations, treating us like guests in their own home. The hospitality was genuine, and the service was efficient without feeling rushed. There was a sense of pride and personal touch in every aspect of the meal.
On the practical side, prices are reasonable, with sandwiches and tagines in the $12–$16 range. The menu includes vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, making it easy for families with different dietary needs. Food is served quickly, which is convenient when dining with children or on a tight schedule.
There are a few things to consider. The Midtown Global Market can get crowded and noisy, especially during peak hours, so it might not be the best setting for quiet conversation. Seating is shared and casual, and the environment is more bustling than formal. Some popular items, like the lamb shank tagine, are made in limited batches, so it’s best to arrive early for the full selection.
If you plan to visit, I recommend arriving before the lunch rush, trying a variety of salads to sample the mezze, and ordering the lamb shank tagine if it’s available. The hot mint tea is a perfect way to end the meal, and it’s worth exploring the rest of the market afterward for a complete experience.
Overall, our visit to Moroccan Flavors was both delicious and welcoming. The culinary quality, attentive service, and vibrant setting made for a memorable family meal. It’s an excellent choice for anyone seeking authentic Moroccan cuisine in Minneapolis, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a flavorful and family-friendly...
Read moreAdd this place to your list of restaurants to try in Minneapolis. The food was great and the owner was very nice. Try the lamb, beef or kofta tagine, and the salad sampler is a great addition as well. I can't wait to be able to go back and experience the ambiance of eating at the restaurant.
For those who want to read the whole story, here you go. I placed an online order about 30 minutes before they stopped doing curb side pickup. When we arrived 20 minutes later, I called to let them know we were there and they seemed a little flustered as if they had missed the online order while they were already preparing to close for the day. He double checked the online order and told us to hold on about 15 minutes before it would be ready, so we patiently waited. He brought the food out and was very nice and apologized for the short delay. When I got home, I realized the mint tea was not included. Not a big deal. The food was really good and I'm already planning on going back based on the food alone. Fast forward to the morning after, and I receive a missed call from Moroccan Flavors. About two hours later, I received another call from Moroccan Flavors and decided to answer. It was the owner calling to apologize for forgetting to give us the tea. He called twice to make sure he could apologize and let us know he would make up for it next time we stopped by. Anyway, short story long, you can tell they really care about their customers and the quality of their food, and I will...
Read moreI don't know how many years I have been here, but suffice it to say that since coming here before the pandemic, I have been in love with this place, and post-pandemic is no exception. This is easily one of my favorite restaurants in the entire Twin Cities, and everytime I come to the Midtown Global Market, despite many choices, I would almost exclusively come here for food.
I have been an avid fan of the beef couscous because the beef was very tenderly cooked and extremely tasty. All the vegetables and the couscous along with the beef were able to provide another layer of flavor if one wished for it. I have also tried the lamb shank tagine before, and the tenderness of the lamb was no exception. Coming here has never failed to be an amazing experience.
The owner has also been extremely nice everytime, showing lots of care and hospitality. Once after finishing a plate, seeing that I finished it very fast, he provided me with another plate on the house. I thought it was very wholesome.
Easily a food spot I would take every visitor to if they come to the...
