Brunch with a friend today in downtown Missoula ✨✨✨

RUN DONT WALK to Cafe Mimosa. I have tried every brunch restaurant from Hamilton to Whitefish and this little gem blows everyone out of the glacier waters. Every detail is so thoughtful and intentional, from the interior design to the fried capers and fresh squeezed OJ mimosas. The price point is competitive with Florabella and River City Grille, but the quality of the service and meal is in another universe. What isn’t listed on the menu: The vegetables are sourced locally from the Western Montana Growers Co-Op. The OJ is fresh squeezed. The Benedict’s come with a mini salad of dressed microgreens, arugula, cherry toms and feta that is the perfect bright bite to compliment a decadent hollandaise. Hopefully they add these tidbits to the printed menu in the future so you know exactly how awesome your experience is about to be ;) My date and I split the Smoked Salmon Benny and the mushroom omelette as we couldn’t decide. I am embarrassed that I asked for ketchup for my hash browns, because the seasoning across the meal was so perfectly balanced, I couldn’t defile it with Heinz. The Benny was decadent and flawless, with the salad bringing bright notes in between bites. The omelette truly surprised me as I’m not an omelette lover, but the cherry tomatoes and meaty oysters sounded amazing. They were prepared perfectly between a blanket of delicate eggs, and the cream and gournay cheeses made every bite an explosion of balanced flavor topped with a sprinkle of crunchy salt. Mimosas were served in lovely glassware and were perfectly balanced between juice and champagne. Please note the photos added were partially drank; they came to the table literally overflowing! You get your moneys worth. For two incredible meals and 4 mimosas, the bill was $93. Completely reasonable for the dining experience we had. Our server Chloe was a delight, the owner came out to personally check on us. My only tiny bit of criticism was that the background music was a bit loud for the intimacy that the “back” of the restaurant implies. But overall, every detail was so thoughtful, I pray this restaurant remains a downtown zootown stable for the next millennia.

The service and food take this place down to 2 stars. While I feel I’m being generous, the highlights are the milkshakes and the fact that I believe our server was kind. Tres Bonne needs to be better for having the location they have and I believe they can do better. First, we had a runner come to our table twice with an order for another table. So is there an issue with their ordering system? Second, my order arrived with a hard layer of butter on top. Which was unappetizing to say the least. So I don’t recommend the salmon “bites” dish. Third, they charged a fee for splitting a meal without even providing another plate or doing anything to split it. Fourth, we waited so long for water, then longer for our drink orders and we eventually got our food. The croissant waffle is too small for the price you pay, in my opinion. And please, have indicators of dishes that include nuts, are vegan, include dairy or something on your menu. That’s so important. Am I glad I tried it, yes. Because now I know the drinks are good, but wait times and food leave much to be desired. I’m only this opinionated because I believe this restaurant can be amazing.

I think people need to understand that restaurants are going to go through an adjustment period their first couple months so maybe hold off before leaving a bad review until they have time to course correct. I had this in mind walking in for the first time with two girl friends last weekend. I was shocked! The atmosphere is beautiful. Lively yet able to have close conversations. The food was beyond expectations; not only that but it came quickly (not too quickly) and was hot! I highly recommend the croissant waffle. I also anticipated service to be a bit slow with a new restaurant but our server was wonderful. I didn't catch her name but she was brunette, wearing a hat and had rosy cheeks and freckles. She was phenomenal. Was so attentive, made sure our water glasses were always filled, and did an awesome job upselling to draw out our fun filled brunch. Servers in Missoula need to do this more honestly. We never felt like they were trying to turn tables or hurry us out of there. The restaurant was incredibly busy but the waitstaff around us never seemed to be in over their heads. Keep it up! Can't...
