Briquettes Steakhouse — Restaurant in Mobile

I’m really puzzled by the high ratings this place has received. Based on my experience, both the quality of the food and the service didn’t meet expectations.

The steaks were a major letdown. The filet, which should be tender, was tough and lacked flavor, and it seems the kitchen may have overcooked it in an attempt to tenderize it. Unfortunately, all of the steaks arrived well done, despite specifying different temperatures. The ribeye was particularly disappointing—thin, overcooked, and tasteless.

On the sides, my potato was warm but not hot, while my guest’s was served cold. The spinach and artichoke dip was fine but nothing special. The salad had almost no dressing, making it dry and bland.

To try and improve the meal, I ordered a side of crawfish cream sauce for $6. When it arrived, it came in a tiny 2-ounce ramekin (as shown in the picture). For that price, I expected something more substantial, but what I got was watery sauce with a single tiny crawfish and almost no flavor. That $6 charge for a tiny ramekin was honestly highway robbery.

The service was equally underwhelming. Our server was inattentive, taking longer than expected to bring items like drinks, utensils, and even the check.

The price point for the meals is well above what the quality and service justify. For what you're paying, you're not getting a better experience than what you'd find at other restaurants offering similar prices—where the quality of the food and the level of service are far superior.

We began to eat at briquettes when they opened at their first location right beside Panera Bread on Schillingers Road. My family fell in love with it immediately. My wife's favorite thing to order is their wings. The many times that she has ordered them she's always eaten them with a satisfied grin and head shake of approval. As for me, my personal favorite is the New York strip steak done medium. The char on the steak is always perfect and provides just enough crust along with a seasoning that is quite flavorful. I do know it is a sin at some places to request A1 steak sauce but I always do no matter where I'm eating just because I like the flavor. I have purposely gone to other steak restaurants and ordered the New York strip and as of yet I have not found another steak that compares to briquettes. It is by far, in my opinion, the best steak in Mobile. The service is always good and always quick. We have never had to wait long for a meal. I have tried the Kansas City which is a New York strip steak with the bone left in. Equally as delicious but I just prefer no bone. We usually never get dessert there because we are so full from our meal. Anytime we get the chance to go to briquettes you better believe I will be ordering the steak because it is my absolute favorite. Highly recommend this restaurant. They now have two convenient locations on either side of town and both stay busy. I Ordered From Here On Serval Occasions this day in particular I realized I’ve been spending my money at the wrong place. I order 2 16 oz ribeye dinners well done. Both other my steaks were undercooked, pink, and bleeding. I called for a remake they only had 12 oz steaks I accepted that. When I got home my steaks were again pink and bloody. I talked to the owner I let them know I have pictures with times and dates showing my food before I threw it away. He tell me to go in the trash and get it. And not only that, but he could only refund me for one meal. The owner then told me after they made my food wrong twice that I should not return he could do without the $100 I spent while chuckling. He was talking over me he was rude he didn’t care to hear anything I had to say he didn’t care to see any proof. They told me to bring the food back and I would have got it out the garbage and took it back until the manager Brent threatened to call the police on me for no reason. Keep in mind I didnt make any threats I didn’t curse or disrespect anybody. I have spent well over $2,000 in my history of visiting this place.
