It's a Starbucks. But not a huge fan of this one. The layout isn't my favorite. But the problem that arises is it's difficult for the staff to hear. My wife ordered and I stood next to her and had no trouble hearing her order, but the cashier did. Once she finally "understood" the order, it took her an inordinately long time to enter even one drink. Finally the order was placed. We waited for our drinks... and waited. Went to the bathroom, but both were locked. No indication on the outside they were in use. Is a key needed or is someone inside? Even Taco Bell has the little indicator when the lock goes to let you know. Asked the cashier (which took multiple times because she couldn't hear), "Is a key necessary?" Nope. Back to the restroom. Two individual single units and they eventually freed up. After washing my hands I used the dryer only to have it spew water all over me (wondered why there puddles on the ground). My wife told me the other unit looked like the previous occupant flipped soap over everything. She found out the dryer is just setup to blow the leftover soap remnants from the sink all over everything. (I really hate those kinds of hand dryers.) Returned to the counter. Continued to wait for our drinks. They were finally ready and the size was wrong. "I didn't order this size, I ordered the other." "Oh, you'll need to go pay for that first." And return to the cashier who can't understand what's being ordered to begin with? Um... no thanks. Drinks were fine (even if the wrong size), just not the expected "Starbucks experience." And they obviously need to do a better job of training their staff. Don't have these types of interaction experiences at most Starbucks. I know: first world problems. But if I'm going to pay that much for coffee, I...
Read moreI really, really want to say that coming here is the best experience ever, but it isn't. One night, I went inside to read and do homework. The employees were talking about customers, about their taxes, relationships, etc. Now, I don't mind seeing employees having a good time, but either it echos really loudly in that small area, or the employees are just loud in general. I left early because I can hear them talk through my noise cancelling headphones.
I came back another night, thinking that one night may have just been one bad experience, but, unfortunately, it was loud again.
I used to be a night manager for a business, and if there is one thing I know is that the employees will only reflect the expectations the manager at the time sets for them. I feel there is no managing going on in the night shifts.
Starbucks is a place where employees should have fun, but I don't think employees talking about bad customers, money issues, relationship issues, laughing very loudly, etc. is what Starbucks on John Deere Rd. wants to display for their customers.
Remember, it's loud enough to hear through noise cancelling headphones. No one is able to study there at night. Not to mention, the employees don't even look you in the eye. They are there to have fun and get paid, not give the best customer experience they can. This can all change if the management will speak up about it.
Hope the experience changes soon for anyone that spends...
Read moreBest "European Style" coffee I've had in the U.S.; just the way I like it and it was very similar to the "Flat White" I sometimes get back home when I visit a Starbucks (which is not very often)... I will definitely visit this particular shop again; next time I'll sit in and have my drink out of a proper cup, as opposed to a paper one.
Unfortunately the other Starbucks I visited (here) a couple of weeks ago weren't able to make the coffee the way I like it (the way I like it - simply a couple of shots of espresso topped up with hot milk / foam, nothing else - a.k.a. a "flat white"); they gave me filter coffee with cold milk... not exactly what I was looking for, and I'd given up on having a decent coffee in the Central Mid West, until I found this place.
Bravo to this shop though... you nailed it :-)
Oh, this review was only for the coffee and service, which were fabulous... I didn't have anything to eat, but cannot comment on that, however, I'm being asked to rate it however otherwise I cannot publish this well deserved praise... I gave it a 3 anyway and some of you may disagree, which is fair enough... but one thing, if you like a decent coffee, "European Style", then head here... maybe they could roll the "Flat White" out to all their other stores... now that would...
