It was a Friday night & we were excited to try a new restaurant. When we walked in at about 7pm they were very crowded so trying to maintain any form of social distance, with myself being immunocompromised, was just impossible. This was not only due to how crowded it was but the fact that the restaurant itself is very âcrammed togetherâ. We decided to stay because the food looked good so we waited amongst much confusion & finally got a table for 2. Upon reviewing the menu we discovered the prices to be even higher than anticipated. In comparison to a Janesville restaurant with very similar meals they were a good $2-$3 more for much smaller amounts of food. We both ordered the Burritos Mexicanos which is 2 burritos filled with beans & beef tips along with a guacamole salad. The cost of this meal was $14 and some change. Now, I have had all my teeth removed for dentures & can not chew beef tips so I asked if they could give me chicken instead of the beef tips. They suggested the Burrito Deluxe which I explained I did not want the Ranchero sauce. Our waiter was very nice but we could tell he was struggling to understand English so I explained the best I could & he seemed to finally understand. We received our food after a really long wait & everything was tasting good so we decided we would probably make the 35 minute trip (hour & 10 minutes round trip) a couple times a month & we would just spend a little more & buy a side so the meal was enough to fill my husband. We finished eating & received the check & to our dismay my husbands burritos with beef tips was the $14 & some change but my chicken burritos (same meal just mine had the chicken & no beef tips) was charged at $2 more ($16 & some change). We thought well maybe they didnât realize I didnât have the chicken AND the beef tips. I went to the register & I explained to the man that I had been charged for chicken on top of beef tips. He replied that chicken is expensive. I told him I did not have the beef tips & the chicken so why would it cost more. Again he stated chicken is more expensive than beef tips. I am not a mean or rude person & I am very patient & understanding but anyone can look at any grocery store & see that chicken is about $3 a lb & beef is $5 a lb (& that is on the low end). They sell a meal called Burritos Deluxe which is 2 burritos chicken or beef with beans & ranchero sauce with a guacamole salad. Same meal but with ranchero sauce instead of melted cheese & chicken instead of beef tips. This meal sells for $12 & some change ($2 less than the version with beef tips). So I guess I could have ordered the Burritos Deluxe & said hold the ranchero & paid $4 less?? Needless to say for 2 burritos each & a guacamole salad each plus the free chips/salsa & 2 sodas we paid over $40. We could have went to Fibs right here in Orfordville & ate prime rib w salad buffets for maybe $5 more. Sadly, we will not be returning to Luna Maya again. I was fine with paying the $14 even though chicken is way cheaper than beef tips but to upcharge $4 more than I could have paid for the Burritos Deluxe without the ranchero sauce is ridiculous. Somewhere with better customer service would have explained there would be an upcharge when I ordered. Luna Maya feel far short of expectations again when they could have just put the meal back to the $14. I was willing to pay the $2 more for the lesser expensive meat as a courtesy for having to change up the meal ordered but Luna Maya was set on getting that extra $2 over making a new customer for life. The food was good but not anything extraordinary, it was very crowded, & the music was up so loud we felt like it was needing to be heard over us hearing each other. Sorry Luna Maya you just couldnât meet our expectations & you wouldnât even try to come close so we can not recommend...
Read moreAwful. Never going back. First come in the door and asked for a table, for my disabled parent. Go to sit at the table and are told that we cannot sit there. The manager or some owner yelled at the waitress in Spanish, so Iâm not sure what he told her. She seats us and then decides not towaitress anymore. And the guy stares at us through our whole meal. We get seated in a booth instead, which was painful for my mother to sit at. Didnât like the salsa, but the chips were okay. Ordered one serving of beef nachos. Asked to not put lettuce or tomato on it and we wanted sour cream and cheese. We wanted to try it first, so we shared one plate. Get the nachos and they have tons of lettuce and tomatoes on them with no cheese or sour cream. They didnât taste good either. At least we got our drink orders of Pepsi correct! That is all that we had, two drinks and a plate of nasty nachos. It cost $30! I left a tip since our new waiter was kind, but I donât believe that he received the tip. Then, as we were finishing up two people come into the restaurant and are seated at the table that we were originally going to sit at. What was the point of that? There were other people seated at the tables around us. Wasted my hard...
Read moreThis restaurant is amazing! I haven't found an authentic Mexican restaurant that deserves a 5 star rating in years!
The service was prompt, the staff was incredibly friendly, the restaurant was clean, and above all the food was absolutely delicious. We were only on vacation here in Wisconsin for 5 days, and we went to Luna Maya 3 times. It was that good! I was raised on a cattle farm that raised beef. And I'm therefore very picky about my meat. I tried the steak fajita and was not disappointed! The texture was perfect and the flavor was amazing. My sister got a chicken burrito. I tasted hers and was shocked that it was just as delicious as mine. I'm not sure what kind of they put in that cheese sauce, but I could take a bath in that sauce! Next time I think I'll ask for that sauce instead of salsa to dip my chips in, and then ask for a vat of it to go! For once someone made a cheese sauce that tastes like actual melted cheese and not like it came from a powder or a can!
Of the 8 of us at the table, not one of us had a single complaint about the food.
I highly recommend eating at Luna Maya if you are even remotely close to the area. You won't be...
