where to start? less than good experience on a sunday.
i came here thinking i was going to will henry's. it has changed to a "pizzaria"
first things first, they do not offer their specialty pizzas in small/personal sizes, which are listed on the menu. they do not offer slices on sunday. so basically, they arent a pizzaria. its weird to call yourself a pizzaria, but limit customers to minimum 16" pizza.
the bar tender Sam was nice, but pre-occupied with customers at the other end of the bar. service was slow, and i had to wave her down to get service.
i started with garlic knots with marinara sauce. the "garlic sauce" was bland, it was butter with a ton of garlic powder (not even garlic salt) i expected actual garlic sauce, but no actual garlic was included. they were sprinkled conservatively with parm. the marinara sauce had the consistency of water and would not stick to the knots. disappointing . when Sam informed me i would not be getting pizza, i pivoted to wings. she stopped me and said they ran out the night before, and had to go check to see if they had gotten more wings. luckily they had. unluckily, when i recieved my wings, they were unseasoned, plain wings. i ordered lemon pepper and spicy jerk, but the wings had absolutely no seasoning on them. plain wings. i asked for buffalo sauce, and dipped the useasoned wings in the sauce. the sauce was not buffalo sauce. it was just tabasco.
finally, as for the wings, the meat itself is suspect. the wings are way too big to be chicken wings. if it is chicken its GMO chicken, to the extreme. i dont expect organic chicken from restaurants, but at least make me wonder. these wings were massive, with tiny bones, and tons of meat, which might sound good, but its unnatural.
I'd say skip this place, its not worth the money.
monroe desperately needs a decent sunday lunch spot since amici fell off, but...
Read moreMy family and I had visited Monroe Pizzeria multiple times since they opened. We were looking forward to the merger with Will Henry’s Tavern. It was difficult to tell if they were still working the kinks out, training new staff, or if the service will continue to be lackluster as it was under the Will Henry’s banner.
We had to ask for an update on a beer coming and overheard the bartender say she didn’t know there was an order. The firing times for food were definitely off. My husband and daughter received their pizza at 12:45 but my lasagna didn’t come until 1:10 because they forgot to heat it up. I asked if the side salad could come out while it was cooking. The response from our server was that the kitchen was making it right now. This leads me to think that the completely missed my order. The only solution offered to me was to cancel the order so I could leave as well since my family was done eating.
In addition, there were many small things that gave me pause on whether or not this place was even able to be opened. Some items on the menu that couldn’t be ordered yet (ex- Sicilian pizza) because the equipment wasn’t in yet. I would rather have a delayed opening or a smaller menu during opening like the Thirsty Moose did to get staff trained. By 1 PM they had run out of silverware and were passing out plastic wear. They didn’t have any containers of Parmesan cheese (a staple in pizza restaurants) and instead had small packets. The tables around us were having similar issues, but I heard very little apologies or explanations from the staff.
We really, really want to patronize this restaurant since it checks all the boxes (good location, good atmosphere, great food) but until I start seeing reviews reflecting improvement, we will have to...
Read moreI wish I could give this more than a one star. Unfortunately, my family and I drove about an hour to try this place as I had seen that at one point they specialized in pizza and marketed as a pizzeria. Being New Yorker and now living in GA, I'm always looking for good pizza. So, we took the trip and were really hoping to get at least decent pizza and wings. Long story short, we ordered a large plain cheese pie and 20 buffalo wings, a standard order that should be pretty easy to get right. Even after asking our server to keep the pizza in the oven a little longer so it can get crispy, it still came out a floppy, soggy and uncooked. The cheese was not even fully melted, making it a literal choking hazard. The crust was soggy, greasy and floppy. I understand that not all pizza is going to be New York pizza, but I would honestly rather spend my money on pizza hut than this. At least at pizza hut, you know what you're getting. As far as the wings, they were less than average. The only redeemable thing about them was the sauce, which was similar to a Franks Red Hot Buffalo, which is my preference. However, they had ZERO crisp and were borderline cooked through. The service was just ok. Definitely nothing inviting or welcoming about it. To be honest, we almost felt un-welcomed. Overall, one star at best. I'd love to have tasted the pizza before they merged with the tavern, because the pictures looked pretty good from a couple years ago. Do...
