Please advise your front staff on how to handle with a family that includes a wheelchair. He is not someone to be patronized or stunned into incompetence over. It should not have taken the two greeters, one after the other to fetch a well-seasoned employee after gawking at us. It was very embarrassing for us to follow our shaky hostess while this mother hen figure was gratingly calling out the directions on exactly where the wheelchair should go ("table 32!" said more than twice) and actually pointing (which way left was!) We felt as if all eyes were on us unnecessarily. All staff should know where a wheelchair can go for emergency purposes at the VERY least. This disturbed and worried us for all chair-bound patrons- past, present, and future. With the mother hen out of earshot and sight, the hostess confided in a busser who was bussing tables if it was alright if our family sat where we ended up sitting and he was the one to okay it, more than awkward for us to stand there as they did this. She didn't ask us anything. We were relieved that at least she knew how to pull a chair out and close the window.
Our food was a C+ at best, hence the two stars. There was a butter packet peel-off top stuck to the side of my brother's Pepsi glass. An "entree" of six (6) total luke-warm seafood raviolis for $25 and a $42 steak that tasted like $20 at the most. Calamari and clam chowder were fine. Our server said "Have a good night" when he gave us our check, and when he didn't return we sought to pay at the front. On our way there we ran into the mother hen that had helped the two dumbstruck hostesses. She laughed (scoffed?) while assuring us our server did not leave as we were compelled to pay our bill whilst standing in the middle of the dining room among the full house of diners. She was just as brutally pronounced and loudly articulate about whether or not we wanted our receipt as she was when she first saw the wheelchair and announced to us, her two greeters, the packed house of diners and everyone standing behind us in line and outside to MAKE HIM COMFORTABLE. Although a wheelchair can be jarring at first, I assure you this occupant is a normal, understanding, empathetic human being just like anyone else. We did not feel the need to acknowledge the front staff as we left, not that they were anything but dead silent when we did. My brother was indignant enough to walk his wheelchair out lest we cause more ripples in this place that is comfortable with its ineptitude.
My family left feeling torn and confused about our first experience at Crabby Jim's. I hope this review leads to the staff receiving the proper training thereby preventing another family from feeling humiliated. Deer-in-the-headlights looks are not acceptable especially from front staff. We felt like spectacles from the moment we arrived. Have them speak to the hosts and hostesses of literally every other restaurant on the wharf, each of whom made us feel welcome and knew exactly how to handle a wheelchair in their establishments. We won't be coming back. It was Mother's Day, for crying out loud. Thanks for......
Read moreI have to start by saying that the taste of the food is OK and expensive! But the reason why I'm writing a bad review is about the service. This was my first time going to Monterey. Both my husband and I wanted to take our three kids to eat something different. So, it all started by my husband asking for a michelada which the taste was horrible. So he asked the waiter that instead he would like to take a sprite. So the waiter said "sorry sir it'll be at no charge". So we were very pleased with it. Then he brings our drinks and we noticed that he brought three small drinks and two big drinks. So i told him that we only ordered two small drinks because my little one doesn't drink soda. So he's like it's ok i won't charge you for it. Anyways long story short at the end he brings us the total for our meals and he ended up charging us the michelada and an extra small drink. The total was supposed to be about $89.50 and he ended up charging us $105.94. So I told him that the charge was wrong and he was like "oh yeah I'm sorry ma'am" so he goes back and supposedly charged me the right amount of $89.50. He gives me the receipts. And so we start heading home. When I get home I check my bank statement and There was two charges. One for $105.94 and the other one for $89.50. I'm like maybe it'll take a few days for it to refund. Nope! A week later I call the restaurant and told them the situation and they took all my information down. They're like it'll take 3-7 business days for you to get your refund, it all depends on your bank. So it has been over a month and they still haven't refunded the money into my bank account. I don't know what to do now. Basically they over charged me $105.94 and they won't even call me back. I live about 3 hours away so I can’t even go in person to go talk to the owner. If you’re dining here I would highly recommend that you double check what they are charging you. And make sure you get receipts of everything they charge you. I will definitely not be going back. I think i will have to be contacting a lawyer or the...
Read moreWe have dined at Crabby Jims for my birthday (Feb. 15) for the last several years. The meal has always been delicious and affordable. Clam chowder, always on point! Today was not the case. it IS my birthday, but upon arriving, nothing went as we expected. One of the first things about Crabby Jims we loved has been the bread. Always soft and warm. Today we got basket of HARD, COLD bread and had to ask for butter on more than one occasion. It was Not appetizing but my kids were starving so we continued to look at the menu. The prices aRE now OUTRAGEOUS! A child's drink is $4.50!! All kids plates are about $10. Way more than we have paid in the past. We ordered clam chowder, because as some have stated its normally delicious. Tonight, it was fishy. .Very Fishy. The Free calamari was rubbery and cold. Our entrees were not good. Very bland and not warm. We ordered the crab stuffed halibut which was served cold..It needed salt, a lot of salt. The potatoes had either been frozen ir out of a box. I will say the steak was cooked well. The waiter was annoyed when we asked for mustard and ketchup. and when it didnt arrive we asked a couple more times. He also didnt bring tartar sauce and it took a very long time to get my margartia. I normally tell visitors to Monterey to eat at Jims because it is affordable and delicious. But we will NOT be back. Not for another birthday or celebration (I had my college graduation party there last year). Do not waste your time or your money. Walk further down the wharf and eat practically anywhere else. Disappointed in my AWFUL, EXPENSIVE birthday dinner. We werent offered dessert but probably wouldnt have bothered to eat their...
