I visited this location on my lunch. I don't normally come to this location but opt for the Lansdale one due to the drive thru. The North Wales is closer but what can I say, I'm a slave to convenience.
The store was fairly empty when I entered which I appreciated. I ordered an ice coffee and a muffin. To my surprise, the cashier placed the coffee cup on the counter and when I asked her why, she said I needed to make the coffee myself. While I didn't question it, I have to imagine she saw the confusion on my face. Although I try my best to conceal my facial expressions, I've been told I'm not very good at it. I don't think I've ever ordered iced coffee and had to make it myself and so I felt out of my element.
I turned to see a station on the left. At this point, a line had formed behind me and I admit to being socially uncomfortable in these types of situations, so I moved to the side so as not to hold up the line and went to the coffee station. There was a container labeled "iced coffee" and syrups next to it. I didn't see an ice machine anywhere. The "iced coffee" was lukewarm and I saw no creamer. So I filled up my cup with the "iced coffee" and some vanilla syrup and left, only to get in my car and feel annoyed with myself that I didn't speak up and ask for something else. I just spent $3 that I will never get back on an iced coffee (that wasn't even iced) that I could have made myself with my Keurig machine at home.
This is just one singular experience and I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt that maybe other aspects of this location are good or possibly stellar. There are 153 reviews at the time of writing this with an average of 4 stars, so my one experience is just a crumb in the many other things to talk about. But I don't know, it just felt half-assed...like, I go to a coffee/bagel shop for them to make a better coffee than I'd make myself, but it was super unclear what I was actually ordering (i.e. most places I order iced coffee at make it for me and make it better than I would), and it was worse than the coffee I would make at home. The muffin I ordered was good.
I'm content driving the extra miles...
Read moreOnce a week my job takes me to the shopping plaza where this Manhattan Bagels is located, and I usually get breakfast here. The bagels are decent but most definitely overiced - I generally get charged almost $4 for a bagel with cream cheese and a tomato slice, which isn't unbearable, but kind of right on the line for my bagel-pricing standards. They generally give me a little attitude for bringing in my own coffee, but whatever. What really irked me on my most recent visit was getting randomly charged an extra fifty cents on the same bagel I get every time, and the reaction I received from the manager (who often works the counter) when I asked him why I'd been up charged. Instead of explaining that he had been undercharging me or something, he just blamed the "kids who can't get the prices right" even though he is the one who serves me like 90% of the time! Not cool. Passing the buck along, even when it is deserved (which in this case it most definitely wasn't not) is pretty unclassy. Especially as a manager, the appropriate response is to apologize and offer a reasonable explanation, not just blamed your subordinates. Cuz guess what? That reflects on you as a manager. Overpriced food and crappy management. Decent bagels though,...
Read moreAfter being a customer for almost two years i have decided to eat elsewhere. The owners are a father and son duo who oversee four locations. The father is generally at this location most days i visit. I have noticed in the past he yells at his employees in front of customers a bit too often. I have overlooked this behavior until today. While in line to place my order the abruptly picks up the phone and takes an order (leaving me in flux). My order was partially written on a sticky note for the employees. When the employee glanced at the note, he asked me a question to clarify what i wanted. The owner then puts his hand in front my face as to shhh me.
So, the yelling at the employees in the company of customers, answering the phone to take another order with out consideration for the person in front of him and then putting his hand in front my face was the last straw.
Food is good, if not a bit over priced compared to local bagel shops that aren't part of a franchise (Fill a Bagel, the Bagel House, etc).
Service is good, especially when the owner is not present.
